Abstract

This study examines the gap between land availability and agricultural land potential to support food security with two approaches, namely land carrying capacity and land availability. This study uses a survey method by describing an object of study. Data collection and inventory consisting of primary data from surveys and observations in the field as well as secondary data. Secondary data includes data on actual commodity production, base maps and thematic maps, including land use maps, slope maps, and land maps. The results showed that the gap in the availability of agricultural land occurred because the land was used for other uses, namely bush mining. The land characteristics in Tengarong Seberang District are hilly and steep with a slope domination of 26-40% so that most of them lack the potential for agricultural development. There are eight villages that have not been able to be self-sufficient in food due to low land carrying capacity. Embalut, Loa Ulung, and Separi villages have the potential to become food self-sufficiency villages with optimal land management for lowland rice fields.

Abstract

Abstract

Suboptimal soil conditions can lead to reduced latex production and quality. One of the main factors influencing latex production is soil fertility, where fertile soil with adequate nutrient content can enhance latex yield. One of the efforts to improve production is through proper fertilization, where the dosage and timing of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) application must align with the needs of the rubber plant and the condition of the soil. By using appropriate P and K fertilizers, rubber farmers can increase both latex yield and quality. This research was conducted using a factorial experiment with a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and three replications. The first factor was the amount of TSP fertilizer, divided into four categories: P0 = without TSP application per tree, P1 = 175 g per tree, P2 = 200 g per tree, and P3 = 225 g per tree. The second factor was the dose of KCl fertilizer, consisting of four categories: K0 = control, K1 = 200 g per tree, K2 = 250 g per tree, and K3 = 300 g per tree. The findings indicated that TSP fertilizer application had a significant effect on dry rubber content, while KCl doses did not show a significant effect on latex volume, wet latex weight, dry latex weight, or dry rubber content. Abstract

General Background: Rubber productivity in Indonesia remains low due to suboptimal cultivation practices, including the improper use of stimulants, which can harm plant health. Specific Background: One strategy to increase yield is the application of low tapping frequency combined with Ethrel 10 PA stimulant, which can prolong latex flow and enhance cell metabolism; however, its effectiveness depends on clone type and plant physiological condition. Knowledge Gap: Limited knowledge exists on the optimal combination of tapping frequency and stimulant dosage to sustain productivity without compromising plant health, particularly for PB 260 and GT 1 clones. Aims: To determine the optimal tapping frequency and stimulant dosage for these clones. Results: Field trials revealed that a d/3 tapping frequency yielded the highest latex output, while a dosage of 2 g/tree produced the maximum yield; however, there was no significant interaction between the two factors. High tapping frequency, though productive, risks reducing plant health. Novelty: This study recommends tapping every four days combined with a 1 g/tree Ethrel dosage to balance productivity and plant health. Implications: These findings provide practical guidance for sustainable rubber cultivation, maximizing yield while preserving the productive lifespan of trees. Highlights: Optimal combination of tapping interval and stimulant dosage. Balances high yield with plant health preservation. Practical recommendation for sustainable rubber farming.
