Abstract

Paralinguistic deals with nonverbal language to convey meaning or message. But in some cases, students still have weaknesses to build this in their story telling activity. They fail to use both physical and vocal paralinguistic to support their message. Involving students of Early Childhood Education Teacher (PGPAUD) at first grade in Al-Ihya Islamic University of Kuningan as subject research, this study tends to know students capability in using paralinguistic features and the role of paralinguistic features in delivering meaningfull message in doing story telling. As qualitative research, data were gathered from the record of students` story telling entitled “Pinocchio” and observation sheet which were then analized by descriptive analysis method. The result showed, students` capability was very poor, they failed in using paralinguistic features to deliver message through spoken language or story telling. Mostly were physical paralinguistic such as facial expression, gesture , and the highest was posture and also found that paralinguistic features played role to the success and the failure of students` story telling activity. For the next research, researcher should focus on building students paralinguistic features through dubmash or another method relates to the use of technology in EFL context.

Abstract

The aim of this study- to describe the implementation of SQ3R strategy in teaching reading of announcement texts, to describe the enhancement of students` motivation in reading announcement texts through the use SQ3R strategy, and to describe the students` enhancement of reading comprehension on announcement texts- was based on some weaknesses of students` vocabulary mastery and students` low score of reading comprehension that were found in classroom. The Subject was twenty eight of seventh grade students of SMPN 3 Ciawigebang Kuningan . By using Action Research approach, the research applied Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection phases. It was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of three meetings. The data collection were administered through observation, questionnaire, interview, and reading comprehension pre-test and post-test. The results of study showed the implementation of SQ3R was good, students` motivation in following reading class was high, and students` reading comprehension score increased. The suggestion for future research is to conduct comparative research on SQ3R strategy to enhance students` reading comprehension between students with upper and lower ability. Abstract

Mastering vocabulary is the main point  in learning English. In practice it takes a strong effort to achieve this. Show and Tell game is a method that is considered effective and helps students increase the number of vocabulary, besides that this method has the advantage of building student engagement which is an important aspect of learning in class. This is an indicator of the success of the teaching and learning process that shows active student involvement and interaction during the learning process. This study aims to determine the extent to which Show and Tell games in vocabulary learning can build student engagement. Participants as research subjects were elementary school students who participated in the community service  program. The data were obtained through observation and  documentation which was then processed and analyzed using statistical descriptive analysis. The results show that 75% of students motivation was good, totally 80% of students tent to ask question, 80% of students engaged discussing with peer, and 90% of students were enabled to do performance and applied their vocabulary into correct sentence. Based on the presentation above could be said students engagement was good whereas classroom atmosphere showed active and interactive.
