Abstract

Derawan Island is one of the islands that has an interesting habitat for turtles to carry out egg-laying activities. This island is included in the Regional Government of Berau Regency, East Kalimantan which is famous as the largest green turtle spawning area in Indonesia. Of the six types of turtles spread in the waters in Indonesia, there are three types of turtles on Derawan Island, including green turtles, hawksbill turtles, and leatherback turtles. Due to the increase in illegal capture and collection of turtle eggs in the Derawan Islands, the number of biota has decreased. The development activities in coastal areas that can damage turtle habitats to lay eggs such as the construction of beach tourism facilities and the construction of coastal walls or embankments. The current turtle breeding buildings in general are very inadequate. Therefore, based on the explanation above, in line with the efforts to manage turtles in Indonesia, a forum is needed for turtle management actors in the field. With the existence of a turtle breeding conservation center to manage turtle eggs that will hatch and also as a place to protect turtles that are in the process of breeding, it is hoped that it can protect the declining turtle population

Abstract

Slum management actually needs to be carried out not only in slum areas that are part of metropolitan cities or big cities, but also in slums in the smallest part of cities. The handling of slums in large cities and small towns becomes strategic when these areas have a direct influence on parts of the metropolitan city such as the metropolitan city center area, the regional growth center of the metropolis, trade, warehousing, and other offices and industrial areas. In addition to having a direct relationship, it is suspected that slums in the buffer area have difficulty in dealing with slums in the metropolitan city. For this reason, it is necessary to identify the location of slums in the buffer area. Identification of targets from the location of the emphasis slum in the interior of the metropolitan city in the buffer zone, namely Tamamagung Village. The purpose of this study is to analyze the problem of slums and improve the quality of urban settlements which can determine what needs to be considered in designing an environment or even a city to avoid slum areas and then arrange the residential area to be better. The research method used is to use literature and surveys, which produce data then the data will be analyzed and several analysis suggestions will be obtained. The expected result is to be able to design the arrangement of slum areas based on data, analysis and considerations in designing, especially in Tamamaung Village, Makassar City which is the main case study.

Abstract

Abstract

The economic growth of Makassar City reached 5.31% in 2023, driving an increase in the demand for office spaces. However, limited land availability and high property prices have led many companies to rent buildings that do not meet comfort, energy efficiency, and sustainability standards. On the other hand, Indonesia's commitment to the Paris Agreement requires the implementation of net-zero carbon principles in commercial buildings. This study aims to design a net-zero carbon-based rental office in Makassar City using a qualitative approach through field observations and literature reviews. The selected location is in Panambungan Village, Mariso Subdistrict, which meets the criteria of accessibility, infrastructure, and land availability. The building design optimizes energy efficiency through solar orientation, passive ventilation, a secondary skin (CLT timber and climbing plants), and a modular form with pilotis and atrium elements. The results show that this concept not only fulfills space requirements but also supports environmental sustainability by reducing the urban heat island effect and carbon emissions. This study contributes to the development of sustainable architecture while serving as a reference for future property development.
