Abstract

Today philanthropy is always understood as the charity acts towards the poor. Many social organizations are active in the philanthropy field. However, these philanthropic acts only represent charitable or charity acts. Therefore, this paper intends to explore the biblical meaning of philanthropyitself. It will construct a theology of philanthropy according to the interpretation of Acts 28:1-2, 7-10 and Titus 3:1-10. The main author’s argument in this paper is that philanthropic theology is an act of friendship between God and humans also human to human which is the church basis and character, in relationships with other religions. This research process will use library research and hermeneutical processes to explore the meaning of the philanthropy concept. In the end, I will propose the implication of philanthropy theology in daily life with other religions. Keywords: Philanthropy; Friendship; God; Human; Life With Other Religions.

Abstract

This study is a historical description of the struggles of the churches in Indonesia on the relevance of the profession of faith to the context of their presence. This description focuses on some of these local churches in Indonesia, namely the Toraja Church, the Indonesian Christian Church, The Batak Christian Protestant Church, and the Javanese Christian Churches. These churches were born from the womb of zending which made them use the confession of faith from his predecessor church. However, the struggle with the context makes these churches have to formulate the confession of faith with awareness of the context. This paper explores these struggles using a historical approach. At the end, we will compare it with the Common Confession of Christian Faith formulated by the Communion of Churches in Indonesia. Our main argument is that the confession of faith of a church is a form of its struggle with the tradition in which it stands with the context of its presence.

Abstract

This article proposes an imaginative constructive theology the membali puang in Rambu Solo' [Toraja funeral rites]. The soteriological notion of the Aluk Todolo [Way of the Ancestors] assumes that humans at first were divine beings and would eventually return [membali] to being divine, puang. I will situate membali puang in dialogue with the notion of theōsis from the tradition of Eastern Orthodoxy, as exemplified in the work of Vladimir Lossky. He argues that participation in Trinitarian life occurs only in the divine energy. Therefore, in an imaginative way, I propose that membali puang as theōsis enjoys a similar character of being participatory, communitarian, and eschatological.

Abstract

This paper intends to look for a vision of Christian presence that might be applied in the context of a pluralistic society, such as Indonesia. Therefore, I ventured into the tradition of the 20th century Russian Orthodox Church to look for that possibility. It was Nikolai Berdyaev, a Russian theologian who redefined the direction of church in Russia in his day. He expressed a philosophy of creative freedom in the eschatological perspective of the Orthodox Church. He stressed the importance of human participation in the divine work to resist objectification of the world. I will construct the vision of Christian Berdyaev’s presence, I will look at the thoughts of a theologian of a Calvinist Church in Indonesia, namely, namely Kadarmanto Hardjowasito. He expressed his Christian vision which emphasized exemplarity and openness to other individuals and communities as visions of Christian presence. Both thoughts can build a theological construction for visions of Christian presence in the Indonesian context

This historical research aims to discuss the contextual theology in Toraja by drawing inspiration from the history of the acceptance of the Catholic Church in Toraja. The thesis statement of the paper is a historical study of the process of acceptance of the Catholic Church in Toraja showing a theological process that emphasizes fairness towards oppressed groups in society and generous dialogue towards Toraja culture. This paper consists of four parts. The first part discusses the history of the presence of the Catholic Church, which started from Makassar to Toraja. Abstract

Kata-kata kunci: Hari Kedelapan, eskatologi, eklesiologi, person, eros, teologi publik. Abstract: This article discusses Theology of the Eighth Day as a sol- id theological source to promote the role of the church in the public sphere. The theology asserts that the Eighth Day as the day the Res- urrection of Christ is the beginning of a new world. Thus, this idea includes liturgy, eschatology, ecclesiology, creation, etc. Conversations in this paper also involve the concept of person and eros from Christos Yannaras. Yannaras emphasized thatperson is a relational constitution. Therefore, its presence can only realize in erotic movements. To underline the presence of the church in the public sphere, I argue that with the concepts of person and eros, The Eighth Day is God›s erotic motion to the world. Keywords: The Eighth Day, eschatology, ecclesiology, person, eros, public theology.
