Abstract

Abstract

Umbi bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) is a traditional medicinal plant that has been used empirically to treat dysentery, stomach pain, and cancer. This plant has antimicrobial properties and contains naphthoquinone, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. This study aims to assess the antibacterial effectiveness of water and ethanol extracts of umbi bawang dayak against E. coli, S. thypi, V. cholerae, and S. dysentriae. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration values using the agar diffusion method with concentrations ranging from 25.6%, to 0.025% and its bioautgram profile, indicated notable antibacterial activity from both extracts. The MIC and MBC values for the aqueous extract against E. coli, S. thypi, and V. cholerae were at 1.6% concentration, while for S. dysentriae, at 0.8% concentration. The ethanol extract showed MIC values of 1.6% for E. coli, S. thypi, and V. cholerae, with 0.8% for S. dysentriae while MBC was 1.6% against all test bacteria. KLT-Bioautography analysis using n-hexane 4:1 ethyl acetate eluent revealed distinct compound profiles in both extracts, confirming efficient inhibition against the evaluated bacteria. Furthermore, while E. coli, S. thypi, and V. cholerae evidenced consistent MIC values in both extracts, S. dysentriae showcased ethanol extract superior MBC efficacy at 0.8% versus the water extract at 1.6%. Moreover, the ethanol extract demonstrated a richer compound composition with six active spots compared to the three spots apparent in the aqueous extract of umbi bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr).

Abstract

The stereotype is a problem that we found when examining Michel Houllebecq's work entitled Soumission. As a form of prejudice against a particular ethnic / race or group, in this case, an Islamic group, this discourse is wrapped up in story elements. Therefore, to prove this thesis, this study is entitled "Islamic Stereotypes in Soumission by Michel Houllebecq". The aim is to describe the stereotypes of Islam that were built in the Soumission. The data collected was carried out using Albertine Minderop's characterization approach, namely: direct characterization (telling) and indirect characterization (showing), and also using the Luxembourg functional theory, connection events, and reference events by combining the concepts of Barthes sequences. The results showed that in the elements of the story, such as characters and characterizations as well as the flow of events showed Islamic stereotypes; that Islam is synonymous with terrorism, Islam legalizes polygamy, (women) Islam is fanatical about its religion, and Islam restricts women's rights.

Abstract

Dayak onion bulbs (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr.) are indigenous herbal plants found in Indonesia, rich in phytochemical compounds such as alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenolics, steroids, and tannins. This study investigates the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of water and ethanol extracts of Dayak onion bulbs against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The water extract of Dayak onion bulbs was obtained by boiling using water, while the ethanol extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent. MIC and KBM were determined using the agar diffusion method. The results showed that water extract exhibited an MIC of 0.4% and MBC of 1.6% against both Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Meanwhile, the ethanol extract demonstrated an MIC of 0.4% against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria with an MBC of 0.8% against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and 1.6% against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. These findings suggest the potential of Dayak onion bulb extracts as antimicrobial agents against these pathogenic bacteria.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenges in optimizing the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) in elementary schools, especially in shaping students' characters. This study aims to understand the implementation of P5 through teaching assistance activities at SD Inpres Morowa. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research sample involved fifth grade students who were directly involved in P5. The results showed that the implementation of P5 contributed positively to the formation of students' characters, such as increasing problem-solving and collaboration skills. Environmentally friendly innovation projects, such as making tools from recycled materials, train students' creativity and awareness of the environment. The implications of these findings are opportunities for developing character-based learning, which can be a reference for other schools in implementing innovative and participatory curricula.
