Abstract

Kata kunci: Arsitektur bioklimatik, fakultas, kedokteran gigi  ABSTRACTFaculty of Dentistry Building in Halu Oleo University with Bioclimatic Architecture Approach is a Building that has a place of activity which is an administrative part of a University. Dental and oral diseases became the 6th highest disease complained by the people of Indonesia and the disease ranked 4th most expensive treatment. The ratio of dentists in Southeast Sulawesi Province is 4.9 per 100,000 population, with the highest ratio in Kendari City (12.1) and the lowest in Wakatobi District (1.0). Physical conditions and student comfort dentistry needs attention. This is done using descriptive analysis method by identifying elements such as collecting data related to field observations, interviews and other information media. The physical design design of the dentistry faculty building guarantees services in the field of dentistry namely, the space program of the faculty of medicine and zoning which explains the functions of health and education services, basic forms and appearance that pay attention to lighting and ventilation, the application of the concept of deep space, room conditioning, can provide convenience and comfort to students, lecturers and visitors. Keywords: Architecture bioclimatic, faculty, dentistry

Abstract

Early-stage architectural education relies heavily on the understanding of design instructions outlined in the Terms of Reference (TOR). The primary issue in the Architectural Design Studio 1 course at `Halu Oleo University is the absence of a TOR document, which triggers biased interpretations of verbal instructions, academic anxiety, and inefficient consultation sessions. This study aims to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of an interactive and comprehensive digital-based TOR to address these challenges. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with an Action Research approach. Data collection involved 45 students through participatory observation, structured questionnaires, and design document reviews, comparing the pre- and post-intervention cycles. The results indicate that the implementation of the digital-based TOR significantly improved students' understanding across 9 indicators of studio instruction. The highest improvements were observed in the understanding of the final grading system (+75%) and the details of physical studio deliverables (+72%). In addition to shifting the focus of consultations toward analytical discussions, the intervention triggered a surge in the percentage of student designs meeting passing standards, increasing from 40% to 85%. In conclusion, the digital-based TOR effectively minimizes academic disorientation and serves as a pedagogical instrument that facilitates self-guided learning.

Abstract

Architectural space functions not only as a setting for activities but also as a medium through which cultural values, practices, and identities are represented. Among the Tolaki-Mekongga people, Mosehe Wonua is a traditional practice associated with cultural values, historical memory, and the use of space. This study aims to analyze the spatial structure of the Sangia Ni Bandera Tomb Complex in Kolaka as a symbolic representation within the cultural context of Mosehe Wonua. A qualitative descriptive-interpretive approach was employed through field observation, interviews with cultural elders and practitioners, documentation, and literature review. The analysis focused on spatial organization, hierarchy, orientation, boundaries, accessibility, circulation, and relationships between spaces and their associated meanings. The findings indicate that the complex has differentiated spaces based on function, openness, accessibility, and customary rules. The open space at the front of the complex, adjacent to the multipurpose hall and mosque, is associated with collective activities and the implementation of Mosehe Wonua, while the tomb areas have more specific boundaries and customary regulations. These spatial differences demonstrate that meaning is shaped not only by physical configuration but also by cultural practices, customary rules, historical memory, and the transformation of customary and Islamic values. Thus, the spatial structure of the Sangia Ni Bandera Tomb Complex represents the dynamic relationship between physical space, cultural practices, history, and the identity of the Tolaki-Mekongga community.
