This research article is an investigative attempt of understanding lesson planning and proactive classroom management strategies for teaching English at tertiary level in Pakistan. In this regard, the current research analyses primary data collected from the research participants. Moreover, this research paper is qualitative, because it answers open-ended questions using cross-sectional survey as a data collection tool. The investigator has made use of purposive sampling for selecting research participants from different sections of Pakistan’s tertiary level education institutions. The researcher has also employed thematic analysis method to study the collected data. The study reveals that many teachers set objectives, such presentation stage, production stage, and practice stage while planning their lessons. Similarly, the teachers at tertiary level employ behaviour and discussion-based strategies to bring forth proactive classroom management. These findings contribute to the understanding of educationists and bring about further research work at tertiary level from different dimensions. Overall, this research contributes to the pool of knowledge as a qualitative attempt of studying pedagogical management and planning at tertiary level.

Abstract

: This study looks at how well elementary school children can use language. It focuses on four main areas are basic sentence structure, proper verb use, subject-verb agreement, and the use of tenses. Since grammar is such an important part of teaching English, especially to elementary school teachers, the study's goals are to find out how well students are doing and how these skills relate to each other. A descriptive correlational method was used with a quantitative technique, and 117 bilingual students took part. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was used to examine it. The results show that the subjects had different levels of competence, and there were significant correlations between the four parts of grammar. Basic Sentence Structure became an important factor that affected the correct use of verbs and subject-verb agreement, which in turn affected the use of tenses. The study shows how important it is for teacher education programs to teach grammar well and stress the value of combining subject knowledge with effective teaching methods to prepare bilingual teachers for their jobs. These data show how important it is to include focused interventions in teacher training programs to make sure that future elementary school teachers have the language and teaching skills they need to teach English well.

Abstract

Research on the use of digital technology in promoting English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ self-directed learning of listening skills has been widely acknowledged in the literature. However, few empirical studies have been conducted on interactive worksheets as mediated instruction in the teaching of listening. This study used a qualitative method, and seventy-seven students were selected from the Education Department at State University of Makassar. This research instrument is used in interviews. Grounded in a web-based learning approach, the researchers investigated the students’ perceived experiences in conducting the “liveworksheet” website and its potential to promote their self-learning, activeness, and autonomy in listening practices. As a result, the study highlights several significant findings: students’ self-directed learning, automatic scoring, accessing the website, students’ vocabulary mastery, students’ learning autonomy, and students’ technology skills. Moreover, this study suggests employing web-based “liveworksheet” activities in a technology-mediated EFL learning environment, thus increasing their self-directed learning and ease to make distance learning happen through the website. Therefore, this study highlighted the advantages of in-making live worksheets for teachers and students in answering live worksheets which are very important to support, provide interesting learning, and get their learning outcomes

Abstract

Drastic changes in the wake of COVID-19 have been witnessed in many sectors. The education sector has also been affected due to lockdowns. Exclusive online teaching methodologies were used due to the closing of schools. Platforms such as Zoom, Eventbrite, Microsoft Teams and many others were used for language teaching. Language teachers were trained regarding the use of digital tools, and this led to a radical shift to online language teaching. However, we are now moving back from enforced online teaching during the initial era of Covid-19 to teacher fronted classrooms. In this research, the focus will be what language teachers have learnt from that time and are using now for more effective teaching of reading skills. Data collected through interviews with 15 teachers and 10 students who have recently shifted to a hybrid way of language teaching and learning were qualitatively analyzed to demonstrate the benefits of hybrid language teaching and learning. Findings show that this methodology is becoming popular among teachers and students, because it enhances both teaching and learning and is effective in achieving teaching and learning goals. In summary, the wise and selective use of digital tools and face to face teaching for the teaching of a range of reading skills improves learning and their strategic use by the teacher should be encouraged and is discussed in this research.
