Abstract

The fisheries sector is one of the main driver of the national economy. One area of Indonesia that has fishery potential that can be developed is Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, East Java Province. This study was conducted in Kranji Village, which is located in Paciran District and has great pelagic fishery potential. The purpose of this study is to analyze the determination of superior fish commodities from the capture fisheries sector in Kranji Village. The determination of the leading commodities is carried out based on the LQ (Location Quotient) analysis method. The fluctuation of the catch in Kranji Village is affected by various aspects such as natural conditions, the number of fishing gear and government regulations. The fishing season in Kranji Village is divided into: (1) Tuna (Thunnus sp.) season which occurs from October to April with 15 to 20 trips per month; and (2) Goldstripe Sardinella (Sardinella gibbosa) season from May to September with 7 to 12 trips per month. Fishing gear in Kranji Village consists of purse sein, gill nets, cob nets, waring and mini trawlers. This study found that LQ value >1 for 12 fishes species: Bali Sardinella, Goldstripe Sardinella, Torpedo Scad, Longtail Tuna, Eastern Little Tun, Narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel, Giant Fish, Black Pomfret, Dorab Wolf Hearing, Orange-spotted Spinefoot (1.065), Other Fishes (1.057), and Short-bodied Mackerel (1.007). The results indicate that 12 fishes species have a comparative advantage and increasing income and contribution to the economy of Kranji Village.

Abstract

Seagrass is an ecosystem that has an important role as nursery and spawning ground in the life cycle in the sea. Increased human activity and climate change are feared to damage seagrass ecosystems so it is important to maintain their sustainability. This study aims to find out the composition of species, density and coverage of seagrass at Tunggul Beach, Paciran, Lamongan. This research was conducted on August until October 2020 by applying purposive sampling method as the basis for determining location point at 2 stations, with 3 substations at each station with transect line along 100 m. Seagrass data retrieval method using transect quadrant 50 x 50 cm to observe the coverage and calculate seagrass stand. The results showed the type of seagrass found on Tunggul Beach are two species, Thalassia hemprichii and Enhalus acroides. Seagrass density value at station 1 is rather tight with a density value of 92.48% and at station 2 is rare with a value of 73.09%. The percentage of seagrass coverage at station 1 indicates a solid category with a coverage value of 54.92% and in the station 2 shows a medium coverage category with a value of 31.25%.

Abstract

Fisheries productivity plays an important role in national development. The potential of fisheries in Indonesia is quite large so that many coastal communities depend on their lives from fishing activities. East Java province has a fishery area that is quite potential with the availability of considerable human resources, one of them is Lamongan. This research was conducted in Fish Auction Site (Tempat Pelelangan Ikan, TPI) Kranji, Lamongan. The purpose of this study is to find out the productivity value of purse seine fisheries in TPI Kranji based on the size of the ship and the fishing trip. This research was conducted by survey method to know the condition of purse seine fishery in the field directly. Purse seine fishing vessels located in TPI Kranji in 2020 as many as 32 ships that have gross tonnage (GT) of 9 to 24 GT. The dominant catches are Longtail Tuna (Thunnus tonggol), Mackerel Tuna (Euthynnus affinis), Fringescale Sardinella (Sardinella fimbriata), Short Mackerel (Rastrelliger brachysoma) and Goldstripe Sardinella (Sardinella gibbosa). There are two seasons in the fishing process at TPI Kranji, the regular season (Fringescale Sardinella) and the peak season (Tuna). The highest value of productivity per trip was obtained 1.59 tons / trip / year which occurred in 2019 with 223 of fishing trips and the amount of catch production of 356.71 tons. The highest value of productivity per GT occurred in 2020, obtained 2.09 tons / GT / year, which currently has 32 purse seine vessels. The productivity per GT from year to year is increasing because the amount of production is also increasing every year.

Abstract

Lamongan Regency is one of the districts in East Java which have high potential of fishery resources. Purpose of this study is to determine the business feasibility of purse seine fishing gear at TPI Kranji, Lamongan. The data collection technique was carried out by field observations and in-depth interviews. Methods of data analysis with financial analysis using Net Present Value (NPV), Payback Period (PP), and Benefit Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio) methods. Analysis results shows that the purse seine business at TPI Kranji was financially feasible according to the NPV value at the 5th year of IDR 1,890,298,600. The purse seine business at TPI Kranji also can return the initial investment costs in a period of 1 year based on the PP calculation and the B/C Ratio value is obtained 22.49 so it is classified as financially feasible. It is recommended that fishing business using purse seines at TPI Kranji is not only an effort to get the maximum profit, but also to maintain the sustainability of fisheries in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Increasing time has made technological advances increase, including in the field of fisheries which has a positive impact on fishing business in Indonesia. Environmentally friendly fishing technology is a fishing gear that does not have a negative impact on the environment. The use of environmentally friendly fishing gear is very important to be applied in the fishing process in certain waters. This study was conducted in Kranji Village, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency. The purpose of this study is to analyse the level of friendliness of fishing gear in Kranji Village, besides the specifications, operating methods, and variety of catches. The research method used survey and in-depth interviews with related parties related to the results of research and the level of friendliness of fishing gear. The weighting determination of the level of environmental friendliness of fishing gear is based on the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The results of this study shows that the purse seine fishing gear, cob nets, gill nets and payang are environmentally friendly fishing gears, while mini trawlers are non-environmentally friendly fishing gear. This indicates that the presence of trawling gear can affect the decline in fishery resources in Kranji, Lamongan Regency.
