Abstract

Researchers interested in researching about the influence of the use of contextual learning methods to the skills to write text description of students class VII SMP N 2 Panti Pasaman District. The purpose of this study is to see whether there is influence from the use of contextual learning methods to the students' writing text description skills. This research type is quantitative with experiment method. The population in this study are students of class VII SMP N 2 Panti Pasaman regency registered in 2017/2018. The sample is taken by purposive sampling technique, that is sampling based on certain consideration and purpose. So the group taken is class VII 1 as the experimental class with the number of students 23 people, and class VII 4 as the control class with the number of students 23 people. The instrument of this research in the form of performance test, that is write text description. Technique of data collection is done by giving performance test. Based on the data analysis shows that the skills of writing text description of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Panti without using contextual learning method is in enough qualification with an average value of 60.86. The skill of writing description text by using contextual learning method is in qualification more than enough with the average value of 76,08. Based on t-test results obtained that thitung> ttabel is 2.23> 1.68 at the level of real α = 0.05 and hypothesis in this study accepted. So it can be concluded that there is a positive influence of the use of contextual teaching methods to the writing skills of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Panti.

Abstract

Problems found in Sungai Limau 2 Public Elementary School toward teacher books and student books that researchers did still find material substance that is not in accordance with the 2013 curriculum. This research is research & development (R & D). This study aims to describe the feasibility of teaching materials in validity, effectiveness and practicality. Research and development is a research method used to develop or validate products used in education and learning. The development of teaching materials is based on the development of the ADDIE model (analysis, design, develop, implement and evaluation). First, the analysis phase is the first stage carried out by someone developing a learning module. Secondly, the design is based on what has been formulated in the analysis phase. Third, the development stage, namely the production stage, everything that has been made in the design stage is then realized. Fourth, the implementation phase is the implementation of the learning module that is ready for student use. Fifth, evaluation phase, which can be done in formative and summative forms. The results of the study show that short story text teaching materials based on the developed scientific approach are valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to explain the influence of problem based learning model and reading habit on the students’ skill to write exposition in class X of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Limau. This was a quantitative research was 180 which applied 2x2 factorial experimental design. Results of the research, four conclusions were drawn. First, exposition writing skill of the students taught by using problem based learning model was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning. Second, exposition writing skiil of the students having high reading habit taugh by using problem based learning model was better than that of students though by using conventional learning. Third, exposition writing of the students having low reading habit taught by using problem based learning model was better than that of students taught bu using problem based learning. Fourth, there was an interaction between reading habit and problem based learning model in affecting the students’ exposition writing skill in class X of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Limau
