Abstract

Abstract The intellectual struggles and adventures of Christian thinkers in Alexandria in the first centuries produced an overarching effect to the doctrines of Christian faith, which survived to the present day. One of those doctrines is the doctrine of the Trinity. The study of the thought of Athanasius of Alexandria in regards of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, through his works such as Contra Gentes-De Incarnatione, Contra Arianos I-III, and Epistola ad Serapionem, speaks for itself the contribution he made to solidify the doctrine of the Trinity. For him, the doctrine expresses the eternal communion among the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, which in effect brings benefi t to us. The construction of the doctrine is inseparable from the Church tradition which owed to the ecclesiastical biblical exegesis, and the construction of the theological methods, and the soteriological perspective.

Abstract

AbstractThis article reinterprets the Council of Nicaea (325) through a triadic framework of event, experience, and learning, informed by the philosophical and theological insights of Alfred North Whitehead, Edward Schillebeeckx, and Peter Jarvis. Nicaea is approached not merely as a historical or doctrinal episode, but as an ongoing ontological event that continues to inform Christian identity, practice, and theological imagination. The Nicene Creed is thus understood as a living and dynamic articulation of faith, continually renewed through liturgy, catechesis, and ecclesial formation. In light of the ecological and ethical crises defining the Anthropocene epoch, the study examines how the Nicene legacy can offer theological orientation and moral discernment for the contemporary Church. By employing a triadic perspective, the article proposes that the Creed of Nicaea serves as a generative model of relational, ethical, and ecological care within a context of global disruption and ecclesial transformation.

Abstract

Conversations about Christ or Christology are increasingly alive with the times. Many Christian theologians rethink what kind of Christology and how it can relate to and be creative for the changing context of the times. One of them is Matthew Eaton, who, through his book Incarnate Earth: Deep Incarnation and the Face of Christ, promotes a new, non-anthropocentric model of Christology, which seeks to connect with the context of the lives of the inhabitants of the Earth in facing various challenges in environmental crises.
