Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Al-Farabi’s educational philosophy on the development of teaching methods in Islamic religious education and to formulate an actionable pedagogical model based on his thought. Employing a qualitative library-research methodology, this investigation critically reviews primary and secondary sources pertaining to Al-Farabi’s educational philosophy and its relevance within a contemporary Islamic educational context. The findings reveal that Al-Farabi’s core principles namely the integration of reason and revelation, the concept of felicity (al-saʿādah), and the vision of the virtuous city (al-madīnah al-faḍīlah) provide a robust foundation for designing an integrated curriculum, positioning the teacher as a philosophical mediator, and cultivating a learning environment conducive to the formation of the insān kāmil (perfect human) and a civilized society. This study further proposes a novel theoretical framework entitled Falsafiyyah Tarbawiyyah, structured around three pillars: Taʿlīm al-Maʿqūl wa al-Manqūl (rational-textual instruction), Taḥzīb al-ʿAql wa al-Qalb (purification of intellect and heart), and Takwīn al-Mujtamaʿ al-Faḍīl (formation of an exemplary society). In conclusion, Al-Farabi’s educational philosophy proves not only theoretically pertinent but also practically applicable in developing holistic and transformative teaching methods for Islamic religious education, thereby addressing the challenges of modern Islamic pedagogy. The proposed model opens avenues for more innovative and contextually relevant educational practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and reconstruct Ibn Sina's thought on the methodology of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and examine its application in the context of the digital era. The research employs a literature study method using content analysis and philosophical hermeneutics approaches to explore Ibn Sina’s works alongside contemporary literature on IRE and educational technology. The findings reveal that Ibn Sina’s methodological principles such as balancing theory and practice, adapting pedagogical methods to learner characteristics, and strengthening morality through exemplification are highly relevant for contextualization in digital Islamic education. The proposed Blended Spiritual-Connected Learning (BSCL) model integrates Ibn Sina’s traditional instructional philosophy with adaptive digital technologies, demonstrating improved effectiveness in both cognitive and affective learning dimensions. Furthermore, the development of the Quantum Tadabbur Framework (QTF) provides a theoretical bridge between spiritual values and the complexities of digital learning systems. In conclusion, the integration of Ibn Sina’s educational thought with digital technology not only enriches Islamic pedagogy but also offers a holistic, value-based approach to addressing the challenges of the digital age. The study recommends the development of educational technology and policy frameworks grounded in maqashid sharia principles to support the broader implementation of such learning models.

Abstract

This study analyzes Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning strategies in shaping the religious character of third-grade students at SDN Emo Kurniaatmaja through a qualitative case study approach. The objectives of the study were to identify learning strategies, evaluate their effectiveness, and analyze supporting and inhibiting factors in the formation of religious character. Data were collected through participant observation of 12 learning sessions, in-depth interviews with 3 PAI teachers and 25 students, and analysis of curriculum documents and Lesson Implementation Plans (RPP). The results showed that contextual-based strategies—such as bullying simulations to instill tolerance values and direct practice of distributing takjil—increased student participation by 78%. The role of teachers as spiritual role models (34%) and habituation of worship (29%) were the dominant factors in the predictive model of religious character. Although the PAI time allocation was only 2 hours/week, the integration of hidden curriculum such as calligraphy of Quranic verses on classroom walls successfully strengthened the internalization of values. The study's conclusion confirms that a holistic strategy design that combines teacher role models, contextual learning, and school system support can optimize the formation of religious character in public elementary schools with limited time. These findings suggest that teacher training should be based on Islamic personality competencies and that the Islamic Education (PAI) time allocation policy should be revised to be more flexible.

Abstract

The research paper analyzed the concept of Maqāṣid al-Sharī’ah  in Zaidiyah and Ja’fariyah madhhabs comparison, examining its relevance in both fractured times and the modern world. The background for this research was the lack of a systematic study on the comparative epistemological and methodological characteristics of the two madhhabs of thought, which made it more than attractive to develop law-responsive approaches for 21st-century tendencies in Islamic law. The paper's objectives were to identify commonalities and differences between Zaidiyah and Ja'fariyah perspectives on Maqāṣid and to test how these differences contribute to the solution of contemporary issues, including sex- and law-gender equality, and law pluralism. The research employed a comparative qualitative design overall, with a textual-contextual analysis approach, conducting deep and critical analysis of classical material, as well as a thematic one, to track patterns of Maqāṣid interpretation. The results include the fact that Zaidiyah adopted a systemic rational-contextual approach to Maqāṣid based on al-maslahah al-‘āmmah and Ja'fariyah – an imamah-centric approach via al-taqiyyah al-ijtihādiyyah. The study also concludes that the synthesis of these approaches is effective in providing a methodology for Islamic law.

Abstract

Amid ongoing debates on the critical re-evaluation of the Islamic intellectual tradition, this paper directly addresses the need for a deconstructive approach by analyzing Ibn Sīnā’s philosophy of the soul through Mohammed Arkoun’s hermeneutics to expose the power-knowledge nexus in its epistemological foundations. The research pursues three objectives: first, to dissect Ibn Sīnā’s conception of the soul critically; second, to evaluate Arkoun’s critique of religious reason—particularly his concept of l’impensé—in the deconstruction of metaphysical assumptions; and third, to formulate a methodological synthesis that bridges philosophical-textual analysis with ideological critique. Utilizing philosophical-critical hermeneutics, the study proceeds through three stages: a systematic reconstruction of Ibn Sīnā’s arguments, a deconstructive analysis through Arkoun’s lens, and a contextual critique within contemporary discourse. The findings suggest that Ibn Sina’s theory subtly reinforces epistemic hierarchies aligned with the scientific paradigm of his era. Arkoun’s method, while demanding adjustments for dense philosophical texts, proves effective in unsettling inherited intellectual dogmas. As a result, the study proposes a hybrid analytical model that offers both critical depth and constructive engagement with classical Islamic texts. This contributes to rethinking Islamic philosophy in ways relevant to education, intellectual renewal, and interfaith dialogue. The research also points to fertile ground for further inquiry—particularly the application of this hybrid method to other classical thinkers and the expansion of its scope through interdisciplinary integration.
