Abstract

The transition to flexible work arrangements during the Covid-19 pandemic has changed employees work dynamics, influencing their well-being, family roles, and job performance. This research investigates the relationship between flextime and employees' performance through the mediating roles of mental health and family interference with work. Using the PLS-SEM approach, data collected from 413 employees in Indonesia working under the flexible work arrangement during the pandemic are analyzed. Results indicated that flextime has a positive effect on mental health and family interference with work. Moreover, enhanced mental health can improve task performance, while family interference with work negatively affects task performance. Additionally, the results show that flextime has an indirect impact on employee task performance through the mediation of mental health and work-family conflict. Given the evolving post-pandemic environment, companies may respond by creating flexible work policies that balance employees' personal and professional obligations.

Abstract

Purpose – This research examines the impact of cross-border acquisitions on the efficiency and productivity of acquired companies, with a specific focus on MSA, an automotive firm. Methodology – We employ Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to assess total factor productivity and compare MSA’s performance before and after its acquisition by Michelin. Findings – MSA’s efficiency fluctuated over time, peaking in Q1 2021 with a score of 1 but declining in Q1 2022, indicating room for improvement. The Mann-Whitney test results show no significant change in MSA’s efficiency following the acquisition, suggesting the merger did not notably enhance performance. Practical implications – Managers should concentrate on optimizing material, labor, and capital management, while maintaining continuous operational monitoring. A proactive approach to the implications of strategic decisions, such as cross-border acquisitions, is essential for sustained high performance and long-term success.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates how flexible workspaces influence employee performance, assess their advantages and disadvantages, and identify untapped research potential in this evolving field, contributing to understanding of this transformative work environment. Methodology – This study employs a bibliometric approach and content analysis to analyze 104 full-text relevant documents from Scopus and Web of Science database. Findings – Flexible workspaces generally enhance employee performance by improving well-being, collaboration, autonomy, and work–life balance, particularly following COVID-19, but they may also introduce challenges such as reduced face-to-face interaction and increased distractions, thus require careful implementation in organizations. Originality – This study synthesizes studies published between 2020 and 2023 to identify dominant themes, research gaps, and future directions on the relationship between flexible workspaces and employee performance in the post-pandemic context. Research limitations – This study is limited to bibliometric and content analysis of publications from 2020–2023, a period dominated by COVID-19–driven implementations of flexible workspaces. Practical implications – Managers can optimize flexible workspace benefits through ergonomic, customizable designs and a balanced integration of open and private spaces to support focus and teamwork. Strategic use of technology and hybrid work policies further promote collaboration, minimize distractions, and reinforce organizational culture to lead sustained performance.

Abstract

Purpose – The banking industry has undergone significant transformation in recent decades, driven by rapid technological advances and regulatory changes. This study aims to explore the development of research related to the impact of innovation on banking performance. Methodology – This study analyses a total of 211 full-text articles from Scopus database using VOSViewer software and content analysis approach. Findings – This study found a significant increase in publications related to banking innovation since 2013. The journals "Sustainability Switzerland" and "Technological Forecasting and Social Change" are the main sources of publications and citations. The United States and China lead in the number of publications. Bibliographic coupling analysis identified 10 clusters with their respective main themes, including factors influencing firm performance, banking strategy, fintech adoption, SME growth, and the influence of organizational culture and intellectual capital. Further content analysis revealed that quantitative research dominates existing literature; product innovation is the most frequently discussed type of innovation; and financial and non-financial performance are often discussed together in a single article. Originality – This study provides a systematic bibliometric synthesis that integrates publication trends, thematic clusters, and content characteristics, thereby offering a comprehensive overview of how innovation–performance relationships have been examined in the banking sector. Research limitations – Articles analyzed limited to article and review publications in English until June 2024 available in Scopus. Practical implications – Banks need to pursue customer-centric and secure innovation through strategic investment in digital technologies, effective risk management, collaboration with fintech firms, and continuous human capital development within a robust regulatory framework.
