Abstract

This study aims to examine the existence of the Mappadendang tradition of the Parepare community in Indonesia, implementing the Mappadendang tradition, and the Mappadendang tradition related to environmental conservation efforts. A qualitative approach is used to answer the research objectives. This research was conducted in Watang Bacukiki, Parepare City, Indonesia. Informants in this study are the people who live around the research location and take part in carrying out the Mappadendang tradition. The data collection techniques are interviews and documentation. After the data is collected, the data is analyzed. This study found that the Mappadendang tradition has been implemented since the community has been familiar with agriculture and the tradition still exists today. Implementing Mappadendang tradition includes rice mashing activities, dances, and eating together. The Mappadendang tradition cannot be separated from efforts to preserve the environment. This can be seen from the activities of cleaning the environment together and the stipulation of rules not to litter and to carry out activities that do not damage the environment. From the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the Mappadendang tradition, as a tradition passed down from generation to generation, must be preserved because implementing the tradition is closely related to environmental conservation efforts.

Abstract

The phenomenon of feminization of poverty is not a new issue in the context of poverty. Indonesia in history and process has never been free from these problems. Feminization of poverty is the loss of opportunities and freedom of women in determining life choices, thus rendering them unable to obtain educational facilities, basic economics, employment, security protection, and political involvement. Many economic observers at first saw this problem as something always related to economic factors alone. In fact, this happens as a result of cultural poverty and structural poverty which ultimately limits women from accessing existing facilities and resources. Even though various legal foundations have been born to improve gender equality in order to overcome the feminization of poverty, the problem has not yet been solved, due to the community's values and mentality that are still gender biased. Therefore, the effort that must be taken to free the snares of feminization of poverty is to change the values in society and change the structure to be more open to women by providing non-discriminatory education and employment.

Abstract

Ecological awareness is an awareness that is important for someone to have as an effort to solve the problem of environmental crisis. This study aims to determine the portrait of students’ ecological awareness, the use of eco-pedagogy based on local wisdom to foster students’ ecological awareness, and the challenges faced by teachers in growing students’ ecological awareness. This research is a qualitative research conducted at SDN 16 Sayowang. Informants are school principals, teachers, staff, and students selected by purposive sampling. To obtain data interviewed, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data was obtained through triangulation of theories, methods, and sources. Next, the data is analyzed. This study found that the portrait of students’ ecological awareness can be seen from the ability to distinguish between organic and inorganic waste. Using local wisdom-based eco-pedagogy is carried out by utilizing school culture and through the learning process. The teacher takes as an example the traditions carried out by the local community and are related to the value of loving the environment, such as the appadekko tradition. To raise ecological awareness, it cannot be separated from the challenges faced by teachers, namely students who have diverse family backgrounds, students who have a diversity of characteristics and learning styles, as well as the influence of student association in society. The findings of this study can be an example of the use of local wisdom in instilling the value of loving the environment in students.
