Abstract

Makhraj or pronunciation is an essential element of Arabic phonetic rules in the Quranic reading. Studies on the articulateness of Arabic alphabet pronunciation of phonetic aspects due to the influence of native languages have been debated for decades. The Makhraj of Hijaiyyah is related to learning and reading the Quran, as the Quran itself is revealed in Arabic. Therefore, the consonant of Hijaiyyah's pronunciation must be mastered at the beginning of the Quranic study to produce a clear sound and precise meaning. This study aims to acquire a pattern of Hijaiyyah consonant designation in terms of the characteristics of the Malay tongue's articulation fluency, consonants, and phonetic nature for the basis of Quranic learning and teaching. The content analysis method developed a theme related to the pronunciation fluency of letters in three levels. The classification of letters is emphasized to guide teachers and other researchers in teaching the Arabic language and al-Quran education.

Abstract

The world is undergoing rapid progress, leading to a significant knowledge revolution. This revolution has brought numerous technical and educational developments in educational institutions to improve learning through modern teaching strategies. The concept of "active learning" has gained popularity since the early 2000s due to the increasing scientific progress and interest in learning theories. Based on previous studies, researchers have reviewed active learning strategies and their impact on the learning and achievement process. The study investigated the importance of active learning methods and their effects on educational achievement. This was achieved by reviewing previous research on the subject, analyzing the perspectives of experts in the field, and employing a descriptive approach. The study was descriptive, reviewing previous research statements and findings and discussing the results of earlier studies. The researcher comprehensively analyzed earlier studies regarding their goals, tools, methodology, and results to achieve the study objective. The study concluded that active learning strategies are crucial to education and achievement. They promote deep understanding, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. Students are encouraged to develop skills for cooperation, networking, problem-solving, knowledge-building, and self-learning skills development. It also promotes interaction between teachers and students and their positive relationships. It promotes positive interaction between teachers and students, contributing to a balance between targeted education and students' autonomy. The study focuses on finding the right balance between targeted education and students' autonomy. After reviewing the research, most researchers recommended further studies to explore this area, develop effective active learning strategies, enhance teachers' skills in using these strategies, and create a checklist to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates Arabic verbal communication among Malaysian taxi drivers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), focusing on communicative contexts, grammatical structures, and learning needs within the Tourism Taxi Ambassadors program. Anchored in Hutchinson and Waters’ (1987) framework of necessities, lacks, and wants, the study aims to (i) identify real-life situations where communication in Arabic occurs between drivers and Arab tourists, (ii) determine the core vocabulary and grammatical structures required for effective interaction, and (iii) explore the drivers’ preferred methods for language acquisition. A qualitative approach was adopted, involving focused group interviews with six experienced Malaysian taxi drivers from AIRPORT LIMO (M) SDN BHD. Data were coded and analyzed using ATLAS.ti 7.1.4. Findings revealed 24 recurring communicative situations that span three primary functions: social (e.g., greetings), professional (e.g., providing directions or services), and promotional (e.g., introducing tourist attractions). While drivers possess limited Arabic proficiency, their communication needs demand specific lexical and grammatical competence, particularly in functional sentence patterns commonly used in tourism discourse. The study further identified six preferred learning strategies, including mobile-assisted tools and situational learning materials, reflecting professional requirements and individual learning preferences. This research offers practical insights for designing Arabic training modules tailored to taxi drivers' linguistic realities and learning styles. It contributes to the broader field of Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP) and workplace-based language instruction.
