Abstract

The present study analyzes the necessity of alternative energy sources for Albania, as a developing country, and theirimpact on the economy. If Albanian economy will directly depending on the use of hydro energy, it simply will not have enoughenergy capacity for its population. Renewable energy sources have the potential to make a large contribution to Albania’ssustainable and independent energy future. Renewable energy production requires large investments, which increases theproduction cost of energy. Nevertheless “high cost” investment should not impede the development of Albania in this sectorsince the benefit is much greater than the “cost”. Any kind of investment in renewable energy such as a solar energy, windenergy, biomass, geothermal energy etc is profitable. Many other countries of Europe have started years ago investment inrenewable. Albania’s geographical position favors investment in this field. Prospects in this sector require setting feed-in tariffsin the new RE law to create facilities not only in investment but also to subsidize the excess energy obtained.

Abstract

The presented study takes in consideration the environmental impacts of transportation, transportation and energy, transportation and alternative fuels, including the impact of the transportation in the Albanian Economy. The transportation sector islinked to environmental problems, because the transport activities have resulted in growing levels of motorization and congestion. Andalso transportation activities support increasing mobility demands for passengers and freight. This is ranging from urban areas tointernational trade. Environmental impact of transportation can fall within three categories: direct impacts, indirect impacts, cumulativeimpacts. The environmental impacts of transportation is relate to air quality, water quality, climate change, noise, biodiversity. Energyand the activities of transport are closely related to each other. Energy consumption has strong modal variations: land transportation, maritime transportation, air transportation. Fossil energy reserves are exhaustible. In this study are set out possible solutions toeliminate the negative effects of transport on the environment in Albania.
