Abstract

The designation of Jember as an administrative region (afdeling) in 1883 triggered the migration of people from various ethnic groups, particularly Javanese and Madurese communities, who later became the dominant groups in the Tapal Kuda region. The intensive interaction between these groups shaped a distinctive process of cultural acculturation known as Pandalungan culture. This study aims to explore the forms of cultural acculturation between Javanese and Madurese ethnicities in the local arts of Jember. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied using content analysis of various relevant written sources. The findings show that Pandalungan culture has not yet developed into a fully established cultural system, but rather exists as a hybrid cultural expression that continues to evolve. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of cultural hybridization in folk arts and provide an important basis for preserving local cultural identity and strengthening social harmony in multicultural regions such as Jember.

Abstract

This study explores how mosques can serve not only as places of worship but also as vibrant centers for social engagement, education, and community-based da'wah. Focusing on the Al-Furqon Mosque in Trenggalek, East Java, the research examines an innovative approach called the 3M Program (Masjid Makan-Makan or Mosque and Meals), which integrates shared meals into religious and community activities. Using a qualitative case study method, the study collects data through interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis follows the steps of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that the 3M Program successfully revitalizes mosque activities by fostering emotional connections between congregants and the mosque through cultural practices like communal eating. This approach aligns with the concept of “logistical da'wah,” which emphasizes addressing the real needs of the community—such as food—as an entry point for deeper spiritual engagement. Despite facing challenges in funding, volunteer consistency, and media management, the program proves effective in increasing participation and turning the mosque into a dynamic and inclusive space for all.

Abstract

Waste management remains a critical environmental issue, particularly in rural areas such as Tanggulkundung Village, Tulungagung Regency, which lacks adequate infrastructure and ecological awareness. This community service activity aims to raise environmental awareness among the younger generation through a waste-sorting awareness campaign using the Asset- Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on strengthening local assets, particularly elementary school students as agents of change. The implementation method consisted of four stages: asset identification, educational material planning, interactive outreach to students in grades 1–6 at SDN 1 and SDN 2 Tanggulkundung, and evaluation of the program outcomes. The results showed active participation from 54 students with a significant increase in knowledge and attitudes regarding waste sorting. Teachers and school principals reported behavioral changes among students and expressed support for sustaining the initiative. The discussion emphasizes that age-appropriate educational methods and institutional support are key to the success of the ABCD approach.
