Abstract

VUCA is about a hyper-competitive and unpredictable environment. It stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Personal attributes are necessary to navigate the VUCA environment. Studies in entrepreneurship show that narratives help people to connect different experiences. Literature shows that a narrative journey can be described through archetypes and relate to entrepreneurial behavior. This study aims to construct and validate measurements of entrepreneurial personality by adapting Pearson & Marr's archetype inventory test within the entrepreneurial context. This study was conducted as an assessment of the measurement psychometric attributes consisting of 12 archetypes. Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) was carried out by Oblimin rotation resulting in 60 final items. This study involved 154 small and medium entrepreneurs in Jakarta and West Java.

Abstract

Understanding personality development of entrepreneurs is important in current entrepreneurial research. Previous studies have mentioned some perspectives towards a scientific understanding of entrepreneurship, through identification and in-depth examination of personality characteristics. These studies show that individual's function as a totality of personal characteristics (which involve biological, psychological, and cultural levels related to personal narratives) is needed. Some experts point out that success can be explained in the dynamics of the daily journey of the business persons than in trying to explain them into personality categories. The growth of entrepreneurial personality can be understood in accordance with the identity of the community and local culture. The wholeness of a person being an entrepreneur is a process of forming and revealing the development of an entrepreneurial personality. Personality growth will be revealed along the journey of life, following the same pattern in a narrative life story that is influenced by socio-cultural aspects. These patterns can be expressed in archetype. Entrepreneurs also share a set of cultural and social values, some of which are based on the values held by the community. However, research on entrepreneurial personality as a whole in the context of Indonesian culture, is still needed This study aims to look at entrepreneurship as the dynamic’s perspective of the personality narrative life stories and archetype of the cultural context in Indonesia. In addition, this study seeks non-economic factors, such as entrepreneurial personality and culture, affect the dynamics of the performance of a startup business. Through the study of archetype theory and narrative life story, it can be proposed a measuring tool that can explain the concept of entrepreneurial archetype personality in the Indonesian context. This archetype personality measurement tool uses a life story perspective that sees the dynamics of entrepreneurial journey as an archetype hero journey

Abstract

This community service collaborates with Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia with partners to relate to entrepreneurs, namely: Institut Teknologi Del (IT Del) -North Sumatra, Universitas Negeri Makasar (UNM)-South Sulawesi, and the Universitas Persatuan Guru 1945 (UPG 1945) - East Nusa Tenggara. Community service provides competency training and coaching clinics for entrepreneurs in the Lake Toba, Makasar, and Kupang areas to improve their entrepreneurial competencies. We believe that entrepreneurial competence is the key to entrepreneurial success. The online program aims to understand the importance of increasing entrepreneurial competence to achieve business success for entrepreneurs, provide a coaching clinic for entrepreneurs who experience obstacles during the COVID-19 pandemic, and increase insight and networking among entrepreneurs in Indonesia and learn from other entrepreneurs. Training and coaching clinics are carried out following stages preparation, implementation, and evaluation, all involving university partners. The training material explains competence and dimensions of entrepreneurial competence (the ability to see opportunities, achievement motivation, and persuasion abilities). The entrepreneurship competency training and coaching clinic were well organized as expected. If the COVID-19 pandemic has been resolved, training and coaching clinics can be carried out face-to-face. Each region in Indonesia has a different culture; if the training is carried out at the location of the entrepreneurs, the topics and methods will be more specifically adapted to the culture of the entrepreneurs who are the participants.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the average IQ score of the Indonesian population in order to provide a more accurate basis for setting reasonable IQ targets in the employee recruitment process. The research method used is descriptive quantitative and comparative quantitative research with cross-sectional and convenience sampling methods. A pilot test of the instrument was conducted to ensure the reliability and validity of the scale used, and the results showed a high level of reliability (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.935). Descriptive analysis involved respondents' profiles, demographics, and IQ scores, while cross tabulation analysis was conducted for demographic variables such as gender, province, age, and education level against IQ scores. T-test results showed significant differences in IQ scores by age group, education level, and province. Although previous findings indicated a difference in average IQ between men and women, further analysis of this study's data showed that there was no significant difference in IQ scores between the sexes. These results highlight the complexity of factors that influence intelligence and challenge previous findings of IQ differences between men and women.

Abstract

Intense competition and unpredictable conditions have made problem-solving more challenging. Unlike the relatively stable markets of the 20th century, today's world is characterized by VUCA: volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. SMEs, which make up the majority of businesses globally, are particularly affected by these changes. Entrepreneurs, as the driving force behind SMEs, play a crucial role in both developing and developed economies. Their contributions significantly impact economic growth, as recognized by governments. Research indicates that personality traits can accurately predict business behavior and success, emphasizing that entrepreneurship is a dynamic process requiring continuous effort to deliver products or services that bring financial and personal rewards. The archetype approach, which explores personal dynamics and environmental interactions, provides insights into entrepreneurial success. Archetypes represent patterns of perception, memory, and action that align with ancient motivational and emotional systems, helping to explain how the mind navigates social complexities. The Hero's Journey as an archetype framework offers a valuable perspective on personal development in a career context, addressing universal human motivations across cultures.

Abstract

This study aims to present a conceptual model and provide empirical evidence regarding entrepreneurial archetype and competence in influencing entrepreneurial success, particularly in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Previous research has found that individual factors such as personality and competence play a significant role in business success. However, the literature on entrepreneurial personality lacks discussion on the role of archetypes in business success. The archetype approach attempts to explain the basic patterns of personal dynamics in self-resource management and environmental interaction. This study uses the Hero's Journey archetype to explain the entrepreneurial journey, comprising 12 archetypes divided into three phases: initiation, journey, and return. The entrepreneurial competence approach by Spencer & Spencer, explaining 13 capabilities, and the business success concept by Kaplan & Norton, addressing financial, internal business processes, and employee satisfaction, are used. The study involves 500 entrepreneurs in Java using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results show that each phase of the archetype journey significantly affects entrepreneurial competence and success. This study offers a new understanding of entrepreneurial personality using the archetype approach, highlighting its importance in enhancing business success.

Abstract

Understanding entrepreneurial success involves exploring various factors, including personality traits and their impact on business outcomes. This study explores the relationship between entrepreneurial personality archetypes and business success among SMEs in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 500 MSME entrepreneurs via paper-and-pen and online questionnaires. Pearson Correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between business success and the Caregiver (r = 0.243), Seeker (r = 0.340), Lover (r = 0.227), Ruler (r = 0.316), Magician (r = 0.290), Sage (r = 0.277), and Jester (r = 0.235) archetypes. In contrast, the Destroyer archetype showed a negative correlation (r = -0.222). These findings suggest that archetypes promoting self-expression and personal growth positively influence entrepreneurial success, while those focusing on efficiency and results may hinder it. The study underscores the value of aligning personality traits with business strategies to improve outcomes and recommends further research on practical applications in entrepreneurial training programs.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze variations in intelligence (IQ) across demographic factors, including gender, age, education, and geographical location, to explore their influence on IQ scores. Utilizing a cross-sectional quantitative research design and convenience sampling, data were analyzed using descriptive and cross-tabulation methods. The results showed no significant difference in IQ scores between males and females, challenging the initial hypothesis regarding gender differences. Additionally, no significant differences were found between age groups, contradicting the expectation that age would influence IQ, specifically through fluid and crystallized intelligence. In contrast, educational level showed a significant positive correlation with IQ scores, confirming the role of education in shaping intelligence. Geographical origin, particularly environmental factors such as access to education and nutrition, did not significantly affect IQ scores, likely due to the homogeneous socioeconomic conditions among the predominantly Java-based sample. These findings highlight the complexity of intelligence determinants and question prior assumptions about demographic influences on IQ.
