Abstract

Mosquitoes are insects that act as vectors of disease. Some of the diseases caused by mosquitoes are Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), filariasis, Malaria, Chikungunya and Encephalitis. Cases of mosquito-borne diseases are always increasing and can cause death. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of attractant (fermented cassava and sea shrimp immersion) in mosquito traps in controlling mosquitoes. The research method used a quasi-experimental method. This research was conducted in Buhung Bundang Village, Bontotiro District, Bulukumba Regency. The results showed that the addition of attractants had the ability to attract mosquitoes to land on the traps. Of the two attractants used, fermented cassava was the most preferred attractant for mosquitoes compared to shrimp immersion attractant. The number of mosquitoes caught in all mosquito traps was 62. The number of mosquitoes in the cassava fermentation attractant was 36, while the shrimp immersion attractant was 26. The conclusion of this study shows that mosquito traps with the addition of attractants from fermented cassava and sea shrimp immersion can be used in mosquito control.

Abstract

Musca domestica is a type of fly species known as a carrier of disease and can be found in places where there is wet household waste, especially those rich in easily decomposed organic matter. The habit of flies looking for food and breeding in trash cans causes various disease-causing microorganisms to stick to the fly's feet and fine hairs all over the fly's body. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of fragrant pandan leaf concentrations of 50%, 70%, and 90% in killing house flies (Musca domestica). This research is experimental research with a posttest-only design with a control group. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The results of this study indicated that the lowest average mortality of Musca domestica was found at a concentration of 50% in 15 individuals and the highest mortality was found at a concentration of 90% in 30 individuals. The higher the concentration of fragrant pandan leaf juice, the more effective it is in killing house flies (Musca domestica). The community can use the aromatic pandan leaf solution as an environmentally friendly plant insecticide.

Abstract

Mosquitoes are small and slender insects. The body consists of three separate parts, namely the head (caput), chest (thorax), and abdomen. Every year, hundreds of millions of cases of disease transmission to humans occur through insects. This poses a global public health challenge because it spreads widely and rapidly. It is known as arthropod-borne disease or "vector-borne disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-mosquito ability of Satintail Powder (Imperata cylindrica) against mosquito death. The type of research is quasi-experimental research. The results of this study indicate that the mortality of mosquitoes at a concentration of 600 mg is 3 mosquitoes with a time of 2 hours at 30°C, a concentration of 800 mg is 7 mosquitoes with a time of 1 hour at a temperature of 30 °C, and a concentration of 1000 mg is 10 mosquitoes with a time of 45 minutes at 30°C. So, it can be stated that there is a difference in the number of mosquito deaths between the concentrations compared.

Abstract

Food is a source of energy for the body to be able to carry out various activities (Ministry of Health, 2015). We can find various types of food easily, both traditional food and food that follows society's taste trends. One of the foods that is a favorite food for all groups, both children, adults and the elderly, is meatballs. The problem with food circulating in the community is that traders want the food they sell to be durable or long-lasting, so many traders use chemical preservatives to make the food can be stored for a long time. The aim of this research is to determine whether or not there is borax in meatballs and yellow noodles sold at Central Market, Wajo District, Makassar City using the tumeric (turmeric) method. This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional study design to identify the borax content in meatballs and yellow noodles. The results of this research show that the majority of samples examined in this study did not contain the chemical borax, namely 83.3% and only 16.7% of samples were found to contain borax. The meatballs sold at the Wajo District Central Market are suitable for consumption by the public, but still pay attention to the possibility of food that still uses the preservative borax.
