Abstract

This article examines approaches for advancing Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in higher education, centered on the principle of rahmatan lil 'alamin (mercy to all creation). It underscores the critical role of embedding values such as moderation, tolerance, social justice, and compassion within a curricular framework. Employing a qualitative literature review methodology, the study elucidates the foundational tenets of rahmatan lil 'alamin, identifies systemic barriers to its application, and advances actionable approaches for its pedagogical integration. Findings reveal that systematically incorporating these values into IRE can foster inclusive, moderate, and globally conscious students. Nevertheless, persisting challenges impede progress, including institutional resistance to curricular reform, educators’ limited grasp of the concept’s nuances, and sociopolitical pressures shaping policy. To mitigate these issues, the article recommends modernizing curricula to align with evolving societal demands, enhancing educators’ pedagogical capacities through targeted professional development, and fortifying institutional frameworks to reinforce value-based education. By pursuing these approaches, Islamic education can address contemporary global challenges and nurture a generation dedicated to peace and universal welfare, thereby enriching academic discourse on reimagining religious education for the modern era.

Abstract

Agama Islam (PAI) berbasis nilai rahmatan lil ‘alamin sebagai respons terhadap tantangan globalisasi, krisis identitas, disintegrasi ilmu, serta radikalisme keagamaan. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi literatur, penelitian ini menelaah berbagai sumber akademik dan kebijakan pendidikan Islam terkait pengembangan kurikulum berbasis nilai, integrasi keilmuan, serta konsep rahmatan lil ‘alamin dalam pendidikan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kurikulum PAI saat ini masih didominasi oleh pendekatan tekstual-normatif yang kurang kontekstual dan tidak sepenuhnya mampu menjawab persoalan sosial-kemanusiaan kontemporer. Nilai rahmatan lil ‘alamin, jika dijadikan paradigma kurikulum, menawarkan pendekatan yang holistik, integratif, dan adaptif. Nilai ini mencakup dimensi spiritual, sosial, ekologis, dan epistemologis yang relevan untuk membentuk lulusan yang moderat, berakhlak, serta mampu berkontribusi dalam masyarakat global. Artikel ini menawarkan model kurikulum PAI berbasis nilai yang mengintegrasikan antara konten ajar, strategi pembelajaran, peran pendidik, dan kebijakan kelembagaan. Implikasi dari model ini berlaku tidak hanya bagi pendidikan tinggi Islam, tetapi juga pendidikan tinggi secara umum, yang memerlukan kurikulum berbasis nilai untuk membangun karakter mahasiswa secara utuh. Dengan demikian, artikel ini memberikan kontribusi konseptual dalam pengembangan kurikulum PAI yang relevan, kontekstual, dan transformatif di era global. This article explores the urgency of developing a value-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum grounded in the concept of rahmatan lil ‘alamin (a mercy to all creation). The aim is to construct a holistic and contextually relevant curriculum model that addresses contemporary global challenges such as identity crises, epistemological disintegration, and religious extremism. This study employs a qualitative, conceptual approach based on a comprehensive review of literature. Sources include academic journals, books, curriculum policy documents, and recent research on value-based curriculum development, the integration of knowledge, and the educational application of rahmatan lil ‘alamin principles. The study reveals that current PAI curricula tend to emphasize normative-textual approaches, often lacking contextual relevance and failing to respond effectively to humanitarian, ecological, and social issues. By contrast, positioning rahmatan lil ‘alamin as a curriculum paradigm enables the integration of spiritual, ethical, and scientific dimensions—resulting in a more adaptive, inclusive, and transformative educational model. The proposed curriculum model contributes to the development of students’ character, social responsibility, and interdisciplinary competence. It is applicable not only within Islamic higher education institutions but also within broader higher education settings seeking to cultivate ethical, globally minded graduates through value-oriented pedagogy and institutional policy. This article offers a novel theoretical contribution by reconstructing Islamic education through the paradigm of rahmatan lil ‘alamin. It proposes a systematic framework that redefines the orientation of Islamic Religious Education toward values-based, integrative, and socially responsive learning in the global era.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penafsiran Al-Qur'an pada masa tabi'in. Fokus ini perlu dianalisis karena karakter penafsiran Al-Qur'an pada masa ini mempunyai kekhasan dibanding penafsiran pada masa sahabat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat dua model penafsiran pada generasi tabi'in, yaitu bi al-ma'tsur dan bi al-ra'yi, sedangkan metode yang diusung generasi tabi'in adalah metode ijmali. Kesimpulan ini menunjukkan bahwa penafsiran para tabi'in menjadikan awal penafsiran yang melibatkan asimilasi budaya antara budaya Arab dengan budaya non-Arab. Selain itu, seiring dengan meluasnya wilayah Islam menjadi awal penting bagaimana Al-Quran pada masa sesudahnya ditafsirkan oleh orang-orang non-Arab. Kata Kunci: Penafsiran Tabi'in, Metode Penafsiran, Corak Penafsiran Abstract This study aims to analyze the interpretation of the Qur'an during the tabi'in period. This focus needs to be analyzed because the character of the interpretation of the Qur'an at this time has its own characteristics compared to the interpretation during the time of the Companions. This research is qualitative research with a literature study approach. The results of this study conclude that there are two models of interpretation in the tabi'in generation, namely bi al-ma'tsur and bi al-ra'yi, while the method carried by the tabi'in generation is the ijmali method. This conclusion shows that the interpretation of the tabi'in is the beginning of an interpretation that involves cultural assimilation between Arab culture and non-Arab culture. In addition, along with the expansion of Islamic territory, it became an important beginning for how the Qur'an in the later period was interpreted by non-Arabs.
