Abstract

Nginang was chewing the raw green betel leaf combined with areca nut and gambier seeds, it was Indonesian people’s habit in ancient times to maintain the dental health. Over time, the nginang mixture was developed into a mouthwash formula to make it easier and acceptable to use. Mouthwash is a liquid form preparation with a pleasant taste and smell, to keep clean the mouth. The phytochemical content in the nginang herbs was tannin which is a phenolic compound. The mechanism of action of phenolics was by inactivated the microbial cell adhesion and to avoid the attached to host cells by the cell surface. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity by inhibitory zones diameter of the formula of nginang herb mouthwash against Streptococcus mutans bacteria. This type of research was descriptive and quantitative with an experimental research design. The experimental research by making mouthwash formulations of nginang herb extract (green betel leaf, areca seed, and gambier) in three formulas with a concentration ratio of green betel leaf: areca nut: gambir, that were Formula 1(3%:3% :3%), Formula 2 (3%:2%:1%), and Formula 3 (3%:1%:2%), the quality of the formulas was carried out by physical quality parameters (organoleptic, pH, clarity, and viscosity), and the antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans. The results of this study of the three formulas were had liquid form, clear to browny color, and slightly smell like mint and extract, the pH at 5.4, and had a viscosity value about 0.79. The results of antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans study was indicated that the formula which contain of green betel leaf, areca seed, and gambier had very strong category based of the inhibitory zone.

Abstract

Premature aging is a health problem that attacks facial skin and is very disturbing appearance. This can be overcome of them with antioxidant compounds. Sources of natural antioxidant compounds in Indonesia are found in Moringa leaves and white glutinous rice. The use of antioxidants is facilitated by making them into cosmetic preparations, one of which is scrub cream. This study aims to determine the physical quality and antioxidant activity of a cream scrub combined with Moringa leaf extract and glutinous rice starch. This research begins with the extraction of moringa leaves and white glutinous rice starch. Moringa leaf extract and white glutinous rice starch obtained were then made into cream scrub preparations at 4 concentration variations, with a comparison of Moringa leaf extract and white glutinous rice starch F0 (0%:0%), F1 (25%:75%), F2 ( 50%:50%) and F3 (75%:25%). The quality test of the luxurious cream included an organoleptic test, pH test, spreadability test, adhesion test, and irritation test. An antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH method. The results showed that the combination of Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera) and White Glutinous Rice Starch can be formulated as a cream scrub, with the results of physical quality both organoleptic, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and irritation fulfilling the requirements, and antioxidant activity in the strong category at F3.

Abstract

Aterosklerosis merupakan masalah yang kronis dan progresif akibat respons inflamasi dan stres oksidatif yang menjadi dasar terjadinya penyakit kardiovaskular. Antioksidan yang sangat kuat dalam mengendalikan radikal bebas memiliki manfaat untuk mencegah penyakit kardiovaskular. Bahan alam asli Indonesia dapat digunakan sebagai sumber antioksidan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dilakukan pendidikan kesehatan tentang suplemen bahan alam sebagai pencegah penyakit kardiovaskular di Desa Tegalyoso Klaten Selatan, dengan tujuan memberikan pengetahuan kepada peserta pengabdian masyarakat tentang suplemen bahan alam sebagai pencegah penyakit kardiovaskular. Sasaran kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah Ibu-Ibu PKK Desa Tegalyoso Klaten Selatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah langsung dan demontrasi pembuatan ginger shot. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah ibu-ibu PKK Desa Tegalyoso Klaten Selatan bertambah pengetahuannya mengenai suplemen bahan alam sebagai pencegah penyakit kardiovaskular. Kegiatan ini memberikan ibu-ibu PKK Desa Tegalyoso Klaten Selatan pengetahuan mengenai bahan alam sumber antioksidan dan ketrampilan pembuatan ginger shot.

Abstract

Kesehatan merupakan aspek penting dalam kehidupan yang perlu untuk terus. Masalah kesehatan bisa diakibatkan dari mikroorganisme penyebab penyakit, gaya hidup yang tidak sehat, makanan, genetik, maupun stress. Upaya pencegahan penyakit, pemeliharaan kesehatan, dan perawatan kesehatan juga dapat dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan obat tradisional. Edukasi mengenai bahan alam khususnya tanaman obat terus dilakukan kepada masyarakat agar masyarakat senantiasa meningkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman mengenai bahan alam, khususnya yang berkhasiat obat sehingga dapat menjaga kesehatan dengan bahan alam yang tersedia di lingkungan sekitar. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat di Desa Satriyan Juwiring Klaten dalam pemanfaatan bahan alam di bidang kesehatan, sebagai bahan obat tradisional. Metode kegiatan yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah edukasi melalui penyuluhan tentang hepatitis, penyuluhan tentang pemanfaatan bahan alam, menanam tanaman apotek hidup, dan kegiatan minum jamu. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian, warga di Desa Satriyan Juwiring Klaten berhasil mendapat pengetahuan dan pemahaman mengenai bahan alam sebagai tanaman obat yang dapat diketahui melalui evaluasi (post-test) setelah kegiatan. Selain itu, warga juga mempraktekkan menanam tanaman apotek hidup serta minum jamu bersama. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi sumber pembelajaran edukatif dalam pembentukan karakter dan prinsip kemandirian dalam upaya pengobatan keluarga dengan memanfaatkan bahan alam yang tersedia di lingkungan sekitar

Abstract

Facial skin susceptible to oxidative stress due to free radicals can be prevented by increasing the amount of antioxidants. Bay leaf extract is known to have antioxidant activity, it can be formulated into a toner. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical quality and antioxidant activity of bay leaf extract toner. The method used was experimental, with four formulas of variations in the concentration of bay leaf extract addition, namely F0 (0%), F1 (1.5%), F2 (3%), and F3 (6%). The extract was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol, and then tested for physical quality consisting of organoleptic, pH and viscosity, and antioxidant activity with the DPPH method. The results showed an extract yield of 12.58%. The best formula for bay leaf extract toner preparation was F2, with physical quality including liquid organoleptic, light brown color, the distinctive odor of bay leaf extract; pH 4.74; viscosity 3.81 cP; and IC50 of 46,090 ppm with a very strong antioxidant activity category. Conclusion, bay leaf extract has the potential to be a natural active ingredient in skin care products that is effective in protecting the skin from the effects of free radicals.

Abstract

Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals, playing a role in preventing degenerative diseases. Cinnamon has very strong antioxidant activity. Edible film can function as carriers of antioxidant compounds. This research was conducted to determine the physical quality and antioxidant activity of cinnamon extract mucoadhesive edible film. The research method used is quantitative experimental. There are four edible film mucoadhesive formulas with different concentrations of cinnamon extract added, namely 0% at F0, 5% at F1, 10% at F2 and 15% at F3. The test results for organoleptic F0 are clear white, odorless, thin, and sticky sheets, pH 7.54; thickness 0.026 mm; weight uniformity 30.93; water content 32.61%. The organoleptic test results for F1 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.78; thickness 0.063 mm; weight uniformity 30.52; water content 17.32%. The organoleptic test results for F2 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.21; thickness 0.073 mm; weight uniformity 24.53; water content 12.81%. The organoleptic test results for F3 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.29; thickness 0.08 mm; weight uniformity 15.42; water content 15.74%. The antioxidant activity was weak in F0, very strong in F1, F2, and F3.  Edible film mucoadhesive cinnamon extract in formulas F1, F2, and F3 produces good physical properties according to standards and has very strong antioxidant activity. The conclusion of this study shows that cinnamon extract can be formulated into Edible Film Mucoadhesive, as seen from its antioxidant activity in F3, with an extract concentration of 15%.

Abstract

Jamu is the name for traditional medicine from Indonesia. This liquid traditional medicine is made by boiling all the ingredients, then squeezing the juice and mixing it with boiled water. This simple process of making liquid traditional medicine can cause undesirable impacts, microbial contamination which can cause diseases such as Escherichia coli bacteria which can cause diarrhea. In Sukoharjo, in several areas, there are still many sellers of liquid traditional medicine selling their wares in the market. There is no information regarding the quality of this liquid traditional medicine. This research aims to determine microbial contamination in traditional medicinal liquids sold at the Sukoharjo Regional Market. Research methods include total plate count to determine bacterial contamination and yeast mold count to determine fungal contamination in the kencur rice liquid traditional medicine.  The results of calculating the total plate count showed that 3 samples exceeded the contamination limit with the highest total bacterial value of   Colony Forming Unit (CFU)/ml. The results of the research showed that from the calculation of yeast mold count, 9 samples exceeded the contamination limit with the highest total yeast mold value of  CFU/ml. This results can provide information to the public to increase awareness of consuming herbal medicine and to the local government to provide education to herbal medicine traders. There are still several traditional medicine quality standards that have not been observed in this study, so it is recommended that the quality of the types of microorganisms contamination, be further analyzed

Abstract

Abstract: Changes in people's unhealthy lifestyles further increase the risk of disease. Efforts to improve the level of public health can be made through The Germas Program. The community in Satriyan Juwiring Klaten Village still lacks understanding and awareness of healthy living behavior, so it is necessary to carry out community service activities. This activity aims to increase public awareness, especially in the community in Satriyan Juwiring Klaten Village, to familiarize and motivate residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The method in this community service activity is socialization, implementation, and evaluation of activities regarding the material of the healthy living community movement. As a result of this activity, the people of Satriyan Juwiring Klaten Village gained experience and knowledge, as well as information about germas that can be applied in everyday life, so they are more motivated to implement healthy living behavior.Abstrak: Perubahan pola hidup masyarakat yang tidak sehat semakin meningkatkan resiko timbulnya penyakit. Upaya untuk meningkatkan derajat kesehatan masyarakat dapat dilakukan melalui program germas. Masyarakat di Desa Satriyan Juwiring Klaten masih kurang dalam pemahaman dan kesadaran terhadap perilaku hidup sehat, sehingga perlu dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat, khususnya masyarakat di Desa Satriyan Juwiring Klaten untuk membiasakan dan memberikan motivasi warga dalam menerapkan pola hidup sehat. Metode dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah sosialisasi, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi kegiatan mengenai gerakan masyarakat hidup sehat. Hasil kegiatan ini, masyarakat Desa Satriyan Juwiring Klaten mendapat pengalaman dan pengetahuan, serta informasi mengenai germas yang dapat diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, sehingga lebih termotivasi dalam penerapan perilaku hidup sehat.

Abstract

: One of the traditional medicines that is very popular with the public is the jamu gendong beras kencur. The safety of traditional medicine products (herbal medicine) is a demand that has been put forward since the emergence of human health problems due to microorganism contamination, such as coliform. This study aims to determine Coliform bacteria contamination in jamu gendong beras kencur in traditional markets in the Sukoharjo area. The method used in this study is the MPN (Most Probable Number) method, which consists of two stages, namely the Presumptive Test and the Confirmed Test. The study results showed that samples with codes 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12 had an MPN value of 0/100 ml. Furthermore, samples with codes 3, 4, 9, and 10 showed an MPN value >0/100 ml. Based on the research results, samples that meet the quality of good drinking water based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2010, are samples with codes 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 while samples with codes 3, 4, 9, 10 do not meet the requirements. There needs to be education on how to make good herbal medicine, environmental sanitation, and clean herbal medicine sales locations so that herbal medicine sellers can improve the quality of the herbal medicine they sell and ensure it is safe to consume
