Abstract

The study aimed to describe the statistical literacy of upper secondary student based on gender differences. There are a gap between female sex is not necessarily feminine and conversely male students are not necessarily masculine, there is a possibility that the person is of type androgyny or indistinguishable. The study was conducted in four students with different gender type that is masculine type, feminine type, androgynous type, and indistinguished type. Data was collected using the Statistical Literacy Test, developed based on the statistical framework about statistical literacy ability with indicator of understanding data, interpreting data, and communicating data. The result with quantitave and qualitative research revealed significant differences statistical literacy based on gender differences. In this study shows that the feminine type has the highest statistical literacy skill between other gender types in understanding data, interpreting data, and communicating data. In understanding data, the feminine type can read data and supported with arguments that are easily understood. In interpreting data, feminine type are able to make predictions of future possibilities, can determine the value of increase and decrease in data, able to think critically about the data presented and able to make conclusions based on the data. But, in communicating data feminine type make mistakes in changing the shape of data from graphs to table forms. Then, statistical literacy ability followed by androgynous type. Then, the lowest statistical ability in the masculine type and the cannot be distinguished type.

Abstract

Statistical literacy is strongly needed in the 21st century in reading data information, thinking critically and making decisions. The purpose of this study is to describe the statistical literacy abilities of high school students in solving contextual problems taking into account their initial statistical abilities, with the following indicators, Tier 1 (reading & explaining data), Tier 2 (analyzing, interpreting, interpreting critically, and making conclusions), Tier 3 (presenting data and predicting something). This research is a qualitative in nature, using statistical ability test, statistical literacy test, and interview guidelines to collect data. The subjects of this study consist of three female students of grade XII Senior High School, with high, medium and low initial statistical ability categories. The results of this study revealed that (1) The student with high initial statistical abilities can meet the indicators of Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, so that she can be categorized at level 5 to 6 (critical-mathematics critical), (2) The student with medium ability can fulfil the Tier 1 indicator not fulfil the indicators in Tier 2 and Tier 3, so that it can be categorized at level 3 to 5 (Consistent noncritical-Critical), and (3) The students with low abilities can fulfill the indicators of Tier 1 not fulfil the indicators in Tier 2 and Tier 3, so that it can be categorized at level 1 to 3 (Idiosyncratic-Consistent Noncritical). Therefore, it is important for students and teachers to know statistical literacy skills in order to increase their understanding and ability to understand information in making decisions regarding daily problems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility of developing the SETREASURE learning media that has been developed and to determine the students' responses to the SETREASURE learning media. SETREASURE is aimed at seventh grade students, especially on set material. This research was conducted using the Research and Development method with the ADDIE development procedure (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) using the Construct2 application and the web2apk. The data collection technique used a validation questionnaire in material validation sheets, media validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The developed learning media application is equipped with material especially on in seventh grade. The feature of application, such as  explanations, videos, sample questions, practice questions, and game score results. The data analysis technique in the form of an assessment score was carried out quantitatively.  Based on the validation results of the learning media, SETREASURE is very feasible with a score of 83.33% on the material aspect and 81.67% on the media aspect with a note of slight improvement, as well as the results of the student response questionnaire were given a percentage of 83.21%. Students also gave a positive response to the SETREASURE learning media so that it can be stated that this learning media is very interesting for students. Keywords: Construct2, Learning Game, Mathematics Learning Media, Sets
