Abstract

Religious moderation is a balanced, tolerant and non-extreme religious attitude, which is very important to instill in students from an early age. SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah is one of the schools that runs an independent curriculum in the learning process of Islamic Religious Education. SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah has students who have different backgrounds, both in terms of economy and religion. But students at SMP Negeri I have an attitude of helping each other and respecting each other. This study aims to analyze how the independent curriculum of Islamic Religious Education contributes to shaping the religious moderation behavior of students at SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah. The formulation of the problem in this study is how is the process of preparing the Independent Curriculum for Islamic Religious Education at SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah and what is the content of the values of religious moderation in the Independent Curriculum for Islamic Religious Education at SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah. This study uses qualitative research methods. Data were collected using observation methods and in-depth interviews with Islamic Religious Education teachers as well as documentation of curriculum tools and learning activities. The results of the study show that the process of preparing the independent curriculum for Islamic Religious Education at SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah goes through five stages, namely needs analysis, adjustment of learning outcomes, preparation of teaching modules, coordination with school principals and MGMP, as well as implementation and evaluation. The values of religious moderation, namely tolerance, national commitment, anti-violence, accommodating to local culture, tawassuh (taking the middle path), tawazun (continuous), i'hindi (upright and straight), musawah (egalitarian), and shura (deliberation) have been contained in the independent curriculum of Islamic Religious Education at SMP Negeri I Barumun Tengah

Abstract

This research explores applying Dalihan Na Tolu cultural values in da'wah communication in Panyabungan. The approach is qualitative, with data collection through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. A total of 10 informants were selected purposively based on their knowledge of Dalihan Na Tolu culture and their involvement in da'wah. This study uses thematic analysis as the main approach for data analysis techniques. Data from in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis will be encoded to identify important themes from applying Dalihan Na Tolu in da'wah communication. Triangulation of sources and methods is carried out to verify the validity of the data by comparing information obtained from various data collection techniques. The study results show that integrating Dalihan Na Tolu values, such as holong maroban domu (affection for unity), increases the effectiveness of delivering da'wah messages, as seen from the increasing participation of pilgrims in religious activities. In addition, these values also strengthen social ties, despite differences in religious understanding. This da'wah approach based on local culture creates a more inclusive and intimate da'wah atmosphere, making it easier for the people of Panyabungan to receive religious messages. The limitation of this study is that not all religious groups accept local cultural integration in the same way, especially those with more exclusive religious views. Therefore, these findings need to be understood as one of interpretations with room for further research in various contexts.

Abstract

Indonesia's vast population diversity includes various ethnicities, tribes, customs, cultures, languages, and religions. Religious moderation is a crucial agenda for every citizen to achieve peaceful coexistence among religious communities. As a fundamental value of every religion, strengthening moderation is a program aimed at fostering moderate attitudes and thinking among society. This research aims to explore the reinforcement of religious moderation values through the role of Islamic religious counselors in the Office of Religious Affairs in Mandailing Natal Regency. This research utilizes descriptive qualitative research, specifically field research, which collects data from the field. Data collection methods include interviews with 16 Islamic religious counselors, 4 heads of the Office of Religious Affairs, and 1 officer in charge of Zakat and Waqf management. Observations were conducted at 4 locations to observe the routine religious guidance activities conducted by Islamic religious counselors. Other data sources were obtained from relevant documents. Data were analyzed inductively through data reduction, data classification, data presentation, analysis, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that Islamic religious counselors play a strategic role in strengthening religious moderation in Mandailing Natal Regency. They are essential factors in strengthening understanding of religious moderation among the community through guidance and counseling activities. The materials delivered by counselors in guidance and counseling activities include worship and transactions, teaching good social life, understanding of wasatiyyah or balance, and obedience in practicing religious teachings properly. Religious counselors play roles as informative and educational, consultative, advocative, mediative, and facilitative. Their role in strengthening religious moderation is dominated by informative and educational roles to instill religious moderation values for the realization of a moderate society. Counselors play a strategic role through various activities such as routine religious gatherings, Friday sermons, guidance of study circles, large-scale religious gatherings, religious activities in correctional institutions, content creation on social media, and nurturing religiously moderate villages. This study recommends further research to measure public interest in religious moderation from different perspectives.
