Abstract

ABSTRACT. This research investigates the implementation of chatbot technology as a virtual assistant in the campus environment to answer students' questions. A case study was conducted at a large university with a significant number of students. The research method used was field research with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews with campus information system administrators and several students who used the chatbot. Data was also collected from chatbot conversation logs. The results of the research show that the implementation of chatbot technology has a positive impact on students. The chatbot is able to provide quick and accurate answers to routine questions such as class schedules, classroom locations, and other academic information. The availability of the chatbot service 24/7 is well-received by students as it allows them to obtain information without waiting for office hours. However, there are some challenges in implementing this chatbot. The main issue is related to natural language understanding, especially for complex or ambiguous questions. Students prefer to talk to administrative staff in certain situations that require more detailed explanations. This research provides a significant contribution to understanding the implementation of chatbots as virtual assistants in higher education. Further efforts are needed to improve the artificial intelligence of the chatbot to respond to questions more effectively. In facing challenges and potentials, universities and other educational institutions can use these findings as a guide to optimize the use of chatbots and enhance students' services and experiences in the future. By continuously improving and developing chatbot technology, it is hoped to further enhance the efficiency and accessibility of information for students in the campus environment. Abstract

The current digital era raises global issues on personal data protection, with many personal data leaks and weak legal frameworks. This research aims to explore the application of Islamic law to personal data protection by identifying challenges and opportunities. Descriptive qualitative method is used in this research to find out how Islamic values can be integrated in the legal framework of personal data protection. By collecting data through literature review and interviews, this study shows that the principles of Islamic law (maqasid al- sharia), emphasizing individual and public good provide a strong ethical and legal basis for the protection of personal data. However, integration with modern legal systems faces challenges, including low public awareness and technological gaps. Islamic legal principles such as hifzh al-'irdh and sadd dzari'ah have the potential to improve data protection policies, ensure fairness, and prevent harm in the digital age. The application of these principles offers a unique approach to creating a safer and more ethical digital culture. Islamic law provides an important contribution to the development of adaptive, ethical and comprehensive data protection policies, by encouraging collaboration between governments, communities and individuals.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to compare the use of social media and online discussion forums as tools to enhance interaction and collaboration among students in higher education institutions. The research method employed is a quantitative approach with an experimental research design. The research sample consists of two groups of students, one group using social media as a means of interaction and collaboration, and the other group using online discussion forums. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring the level of interaction and collaboration among students in each group. Additionally, data were gathered through participatory observation to directly observe interactions. Data analysis was conducted using appropriate statistical techniques to compare the differences between the two groups. The results indicate that both groups of students experienced increased interaction and collaboration after using social media and online discussion forums. However, there was no significant difference in the increase of interaction between the two groups. Nevertheless, a significant difference was found in the level of collaboration, with the group using online discussion forums showing a more significant increase in collaboration compared to the social media group. These findings suggest that both social media and online discussion forums are effective in enhancing interaction among students in higher education institutions, but online discussion forums are more effective in fostering better collaboration among them. This study provides important insights for educational institutions in choosing and optimizing the use of communication platforms to enhance student interaction and collaboration. It also highlights the potential of online discussion forums as an effective tool in creating a more collaborative learning environment in higher education.
