Abstract

This study analyzes the change in inheritance law in Numbers 27:1-11 concerning the inheritance rights of the daughters of Zelophehad before the prophet of God. The background of this research is the historical limitation of inheritance rights for women in ancient Israel's legal tradition, which was later questioned through the petition of Zelophehad’s daughters. The aim of this research is to explore the legal change from both linguistic and theological perspectives. The methods employed include a semantic approach to the Hebrew text to identify changes in terminology and grammatical structure, as well as a theological approach to understand the spiritual meaning of this legal reform. The findings show that this legal change is not merely administrative, but also reflects a progressive revelation about justice, allowing women to have inheritance rights under certain conditions. The practical implications of this study are a deeper understanding of justice in the context of inheritance law and its role in maintaining social-economic stability and land ownership in ancient Israelite society.

Abstract

This study examines the paradigm of redemption theology in the Old Testament based on an exegetical analysis of Exodus 6:1-6. The study demonstrates that the transition from El Shaddai to YHWH is not merely a linguistic shift but part of God's progressive revelation in Israel’s salvation history. The findings reveal that redemption in the Old Testament encompasses two key aspects. First, redemption as a historical act, where God not only made promises to Israel's ancestors but also actively intervened to liberate them from Egyptian bondage. This is reflected in the use of the verb וְגָאַלְתִּי (wegā’altî, ‘I will redeem’), emphasizing that God acts as Go’el (Redeemer), who not only delivers Israel but also claims them as His own. Second, redemption as a covenantal relationship, where divine liberation is not merely a political or social action but a restoration of the covenantal bond between God and His people. The phrase וְלָקַחְתִּי אֶתְכֶם לִי לְעָם (welāqakhtî ʼetkem lî leʻām, ‘I will take you to be My people’) affirms that God’s redemption is always linked to the restoration of His people’s identity as a covenant nation. Thus, this study concludes that salvation in the Old Testament is not only about deliverance from slavery but also about the covenantal bond rooted in God’s grace.

Abstract

This study explores the perspective of the Book of Proverbs on corruption, focusing on how its teachings can be applied to combat corruption in the modern context. The moral and spiritual dimensions of corruption are often overlooked in modern legal approaches, whereas the Book of Proverbs provides profound insights into corruption as a manifestation of the human heart's depravity. This study employs a topical method, analyzing ten selected verses from the Book of Proverbs in their original Hebrew and modern translations. The findings reveal that the Book of Proverbs consistently opposes corrupt practices such as fraud, bribery, and oppression, offering solutions grounded in moral and spiritual transformation through Christian values. By establishing integrity, justice, and faithfulness to God as moral foundations, the teachings of Proverbs provide relevant guidance for shaping individual behavior and equitable leadership in modern society. This study concludes that the teachings of the Book of Proverbs offer a Christian-based framework for building a corruption-free society and upholding justice.
