Abstract

Darwin's theory of evolution continues to be a source of contention for academics concerned with the main issues of Islam and science in the twentieth century. As such, this research seeks to elicit perspectives from Islamic scholarly figures such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Zaghloul Al-Najjar, and Nidhal Guessoum. The three figures have varying perspectives on Darwin's theory of evolution. This divergent interpretation of Darwin's theory of evolution demonstrates that the debate on Islam and science did not totally result in the merger of the two, as all Muslim scholars agreed. This research employs Michel Foucault's archaeology and genealogy theories to examine the growth of Darwin's theory of evolution in the Islamic world, as symbolized by the three thinking figures. The findings indicated that Nasr expressly rejected Darwin's theory of evolution, which had been subjected to scientific and philosophical scrutiny. Al-Najjar says that the attitude of rejection and general acceptance of evolution theory is incorrect. By contrast, Guessoum views Darwin's theory of evolution as a factual truth that must be understood through the lens of Islam in order to generate theistic conceptions of evolution.

Abstract

Israel's military aggression against the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023, has become one of the most important issues in the world thanks to the role of social media, which massively disseminates events on the ground and counters the mainstream media narrative, which tends to be pro-Israel. Social media has been actively used by internet citizens around the world to defend Palestine. In Indonesia, a movement emerged on social media called "Julid Fisabilillah" which opposed pro-Israel internet citizens. This article will analyze this movement using the New Social Movement theory. The findings in this article are that the “Julid Fisabilillah” movement is a mass movement that is coordinated to raise global social issues based on human and religious values to fight against Israel's oppression of the Palestinian people.

Abstract

The development of modern science not only provides an influence in terms of the development of science and technology scientifically but also gets a response from academicians who tried to integrate religion and science. Specifically in this study, the focus of the discourse is directed at the field of cosmology. When interpreted by Islamic thinkers such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Zaghloul Al-Najjar, and Nidhal Guessoum, cosmology has added the term to Islamic cosmology. The archeological and genealogical theories of Michel Foucault used in this study attempt to explore further the course of Islamic cosmological discourse developed by the three figures. Archeological and genealogical theories seek the genealogical thinking of those three figures. So, we could find the pattern in every methodology they used and the people who influenced them. The research results show that Islamic cosmology discourse is one of the efforts to Islamize science that is unprecedented in the development of Islamic civilization.
