Abstract

This study aims to find the representation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict presented in Al-Jazeera News and BBC News. The data for this study were words and sentences that represent how Al Jazeera News and BBC News reported the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The data are examined using Fairclough's three-dimensional model. The findings of this study showed that Al Jazeera and BBC News represent the Israeli-Palestinian conflict differently. BBC News represented Hamas as the main actor in the October 7 attacks in Israel and Israeli citizens and soldiers are depicted as victims. Al Jazeera, on the other hand, depicted Hamas as the party responding to Israel's conspiracy against Palestinians, emphasizing a moral commitment to avoid civilian harm and blaming Israeli soldiers and police for civilian casualties.

Abstract

Speaking is the most important skill to acquire when learning a language. In fact, fluency is recognized as the natural ability to speak arguably spontaneously, quickly, and thoroughly when accuracy focuses on the phonological, grammatical, and discourse elements of speech output. The work is about improving her 8th grade fluency through the use of board games at SMP Al Ma’arif Bantul. The purpose of this study was to determine whether board games were effective in improving her 8th grade fluency. The study design used is based on quantitative quasi-experimental studies. Based on research results analyzed in SPSS 21, the result showed the different significance before and after treatment with data analysis criteria of t-test that H0 (null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted if the value was probably (p) lower than alpha (<) 0,05. The conclusion of the study showed the effectiveness of using Board Game for speaking fluency

Abstract

The comprehensive understanding towards Merdeka Curriculum is crucial for pre-service teachers because they will be responsible for effectively implementing it with their pedagogical knowledge, but it was found that only two from nine pre-service teachers who have good understanding towards Merdeka curriculum. This study aims to explore the issue in-depth about the strategies used by pre-service teachers in understanding Merdeka curriculum through conducting a case study with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research are the students of the English Education Department from two different private Universities in Yogyakarta who have joined PPL (Program Pengenalan Lapangan) and have comprehensive understanding towards the Merdeka curriculum. The study used interview, observation, and document analysis to collect the data. The findings of this study indicate that the strategies used by the pre-service teachers were looking for information from the internet, reading, having discussion, and practice. Besides, understanding the core principle of Merdeka Belajar Curriculum, they also put it into practice in class. The respondents also indicate that they are having applied the Merdeka curriculum into their teaching practice, but they faced difficulties in differentiated learning.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of using voice-based chatbots (VBC) in improving students' critical thinking skills in integrated listening and speaking and to investigate their perspectives on the use of VBC in the classroom. This study uses a pre-experimental design to determine the effectiveness of using voice-based chatbots (VBC) in improving students' critical thinking skills in integrated listening and speaking classes and employs qualitative research methods such as interviews to explore students' perceptions of using voice-based chatbots to support their critical thinking and communication skills. The study involved 32 participants from a private university in Yogyakarta. The research results showed that the average pre-test score was 69.28 with a standard deviation of 3.78, and the average post-test score increased to 77.00 with a standard deviation of 4.83. In terms of descriptive statistics, there was an improvement in learning outcomes after using the chatbot. The paired-sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores after the intervention using the voice-based chatbot.

Abstract

The widespread use of technology across all parts of life is finally forcing educators to integrate current technology into the classroom environment in response to the growing needs of millennial learners. One of the efforts to integrate technology into the classroom is through pre-service teachers' self-efficacy when using technology. Self-efficacy is the ability of a teacher to have the confidence to influence students in learning to achieve learning targets; in this study, especially using technological knowledge. This study gathered data on preservice teachers’ self-efficacy in using technology through questionnaire survey and observation. The partial least squares (PLS) of the structure equation modelling (SEM) technique used to analyze the data. This study involved students from PBI Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta batch 2019 and 2020. The research was conducted by non-random sampling. This study uses quantitative methods of research. According to Creswell (1994), quantitative research explains phenomena by collecting numerical data analyzed using mathematically based methods (in particular, statistics). This study aimed to find out how preservice teachers' self-efficacy level regarding the use of technology in microteaching classes and the effect of students’ self-efficacy level in using technology on pre-service teachers' teaching performance. This study’s results show an effect between preservice teachers’ self-efficacy (X) on preservice teachers’ teaching performance. It can be seen from the parameter coefficient value is 0.334, meaning that for every one-unit increase in Self Efficacy, Teaching Performance will increase by 0.334 units. This study concluded that the research data was analyzed using the Partial-Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. It concluded that there was a significant effect between the preservice teachers’ self-efficacy in using technology on pre-service teachers' teaching performance.
