Abstract

In reducing the number of COVID-19 transmissions, the Government of Indonesia implemented a three-month social restriction policy. The social restriction caused shocks in the economic sector. This article analyzes the motivational factors that enable business people in Indonesia who are members of business organizations to use political party access and congruence to accelerate the "new normal" policy. The access capacity is related to business people's ability to reach political parties, while congruence can be seen from the level of their acceptance of policy outputs. This study develops a variable of access capacity consisting of political party membership, company scales, and the type of business organization. Data was gathered through an online survey using Google Forms to 147 business actors who are members of the national business group. By using logistic regression analysis at the individual level, we find that the scale of the company owned by a businessperson significantly influences her/his ability to access political party rather than passively following organizational policies. The company scale variable also considerably affects the acceptance of the "new normal" policy. Businessman membership in political parties only affects access capacity, but not policy congruence. In the context of COVID-19 in Indonesia, the increasing losses have an impact on accepting the "new normal" policy. This finding indicates that in general: only large companies owners can directly lobby their political representatives; pandemic, as a crisis situation, is an exception to produce congruent policies; capital is still the most powerful modality in the policy; and COVID-19 has had a significant impact on business people's incongruence with the "new normal" policy

Abstract

High trust in government’s capability is the key to public compliance in supporting COVID-19 management. The paramedic is a profession that has received attention during times of pandemics because they are on duty as frontlines with a high risk of transmission. This research analyzed a survey of 328 paramedics living in Jakarta to examine their perceptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government's readiness, the picture of their psychological condition, their trust in the government, and their belief in themselves in health services. The survey was conducted one week after WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. This descriptive study indicates that most respondents have serious concerns about the transmission of the virus. On the side, they are obliged by an oath of service, which demands that they are always ready to serve. Only 30% believe the government can handle COVID-19. All respondents strongly supported the "lockdown" policy in every public facility. This finding is consistent with interview data after the highest peak of COVID-19 transmission in September 2021.These findings also point that low trust is driven by inconsistent and less convincing communication of political officials. Despite paramedics' risky conditions, they are responsible for working, but paramedics at the forefront of handling COVID-19 patients require support policies such as higher incentives and the safest protective tools.

Abstract

Constitutional Court Decision No.90/PUU-XXI/2023 and the emergence of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a vice presidential candidate during the 2024 election stages motivated public expression involving candidate support groups on social media. This article analyzes the reaction of public sentiment in the YouTube comments column conversation regarding President Joko Widodo's video on the day the Constitutional Court's decision was read and comments on the video of Prabowo and Gibran's first speech as a presidential candidate pair. Using the sentiment analysis method, this research produces negative sentiment explaining political disaffection in morality, ethics, helplessness, cynicism and disappointment towards President Joko Widodo and Gibran. Positive sentiment explains political affinity, whichfocuses on electoral support for Prabowo and Gibran. This research was strengthened by one way ANOVA analysis by interviewing 254 social media users. This research showed that loyal supporters of Anies Baswedan experienced the highest average political disaffection due to their consistent position as opponents of President Jokowi's policies. In contrast, Prabowo’s supporters experienced the highest political trust towards the emergence of Gibran as consistency and admiration for Joko Widodo. In their current stance, Ganjar's supporters exhibit a moderate disposition, positioned safely between extremes, as they navigate a transition poised to detach the president's backing for Joko Widodo from the supporting party. The sequential integration of qualitative and quantitative methods enhances the validation of findings in sentiment AbstrakGagasan Putusan Mahkamah Konstitusi No.90/PUU-XXI/2023 dan munculnya Gibran Rakabuming Raka sebagai kandidat calon wakil presiden pada masa tahapan Pemilu 2024 memotivasi ekspresi publik yang melibatkan kelompok pendukung kandidat di media sosial.
