Abstract

Indonesia, with its long and diverse history, is home to a wealth of heritage buildings that reflect its rich cultural and architectural legacy. By applying adaptive reuse on these heritage buildings, which is a sustainable approach that repurposes old structures for modern uses while preserving their historical and cultural significance. This method not only conserves architectural heritage but also promotes economic, environmental, and also social benefits. In Indonesia, where many heritage buildings are at risk due to urbanization and neglect, adaptive reuse offers a solution to maintain these structures. The importance of adaptive reuse lies in its ability to integrate historical value with contemporary needs, thus enriching the cultural landscape and fostering community identity. The impact of adaptive reuse in Indonesia can be significant, leading to the revitalization of urban areas, the promotion of tourism, and the creation of economic opportunities. Moreover, it addresses the issues of land scarcity and environmental degradation by reducing the need for new construction. By embracing the approach of adaptive reuse, Indonesia can ensure its rich architectural heritage continues to thrive in a modern context, offering future generations a tangible connection to the past while meeting the contemporary needs.

Abstract

Rapid population growth in urban areas causes uncontrolled residential development in cities and the need for infrastructure growth which can have a negative impact on the environment. Based on BPS data analysis, Deli Serdang Regency in 2022 reached 1,953,986 people. The need for space in urban areas is increasing because of this. This results in an increasingly high need for organizations which has an impact on decreasing the quality of the ecological functions of the urban environment, one of which is green open space. Therefore, it is necessary to design stadium infrastructure to support sports activities and provide green open space, especially in Lubuk Pakam City, by paying attention to the ecology and ecological environment. The aim of this research is to formulate a stadium design concept using an urban design architectural approach that blends with the landscape. The research method that will be used is a qualitative method which involves the problem identification stage, literature study, and observation of related designs to collect relevant data. This data is then analyzed to produce a design concept that will be implemented in designing a stadium. The concept resulting from this research will produce aspects such as space circulation, layout, physical design, material selection, building structure and utilities that will be adapted to the community. Through an urban design architectural approach, the stadium design is expected to be able to meet the needs of community activities and parks through infrastructure development that is integrated with green open spaces.

Abstract

Traditional markets are an important part of urban life in Indonesia. Traditional markets are still often found in Indonesia, especially in residential areas. However, rapid urbanization and the development of modern markets have placed traditional markets under significant pressure. This research aims to explore how the concept of urban acupuncture can be applied as a revitalization step to strengthen the role of traditional markets in the balance of urban ecosystems. Padang Bulan Market, a traditional market in Padang Bulan Village, Medan, faces challenges in maintaining its relevance amidst the city's rapid development. The market faces various challenges, including aging infrastructure and a lack of visitor attractions. Based on existing findings, a redesign plan was developed, taking into account the principles of urban acupuncture. Urban acupuncture is an urban design approach that aims to heal urban disorders through intervention at specific disturbed points. These plans include infrastructure updates, facility improvements, and more functional space arrangements. In addition, the plan also proposes the integration of cultural and community elements that enrich the visitor experience. In facing the challenges of urbanization, this approach emphasizes the important role of traditional markets in promoting economic and social sustainability in a growing urban context.
