Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide knowledge about the benefits of the digitalization program and the importance of empowering women to achieve gender equality and to improve people's skills in using digital systems by utilizing marine products by making and processing fish balls and learning how to package them.  Community service activities were carried out on Laiya Island, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia from March to June 2023. This activity is divided into two stages. The first stage is digital marketing outreach and women's empowerment. At this stage, the proposing team provided material about the importance of empowering women, especially in processing marine products. We also explained the importance of empowering MSMEs by involving women on the island. In the second stage, we conducted training on the use of marine products, especially fish, as the main livelihood on this island. We teach participants how to process and package fish balls and market them online. One of the market attractions lies in digital packaging and marketing. Participants who take part in this activity generally understand how to make packaging in a simple way. At this level, participants are able to explain the importance of women's empowerment programs in supporting the improvement of community or family welfare. The results of the service increase participants' understanding and skills in online social media at the basic stage.

Abstract

This article explores how South Korean gastrodiplomacy fosters Korean food business opportunities in Indonesia. Gastrodiplomacy, a soft diplomacy approach, uses cultural elements like cuisine to enhance bilateral relations and national image. South Korea has effectively leveraged the Korean Wave—a global phenomenon including music, drama, food, and lifestyle—to introduce its cuisine to international audiences, including Indonesia. The study outlines the historical and technological developments that spread Korean culture in Indonesia, leading to increased interest in Korean language, entertainment, and culinary experiences. Using qualitative methods like literature reviews and document analysis, it examines the impact of Korean culture on Indonesian society and the resulting business opportunities for Korean food. The article underscores the role of soft power in promoting cultural exchange and attracting Indonesian consumers to Korean cuisine. South Korean gastro diplomacy's success is evident in the rise of Korean restaurants and food stalls in Indonesia, catering to both Korean culture fans and the general public. However, challenges such as differing culinary preferences, limited access to authentic ingredients, cultural eating habits, pricing issues, and promotional strategies are identified as potential obstacles to expanding Korean food businesses in Indonesia. The study provides insights into how cultural diplomacy can create economic opportunities and enhance international cooperation by analyzing gastro diplomacy and its implementation through the Korean Wave. The findings suggest that strategic collaboration between the South Korean government and local stakeholders is essential to overcoming barriers and maximizing gastro diplomacy's benefits for both nations.

Abstract

This literature review examines China's rise as an emerging international hegemon and its impact on the transformation of the global order. Grounded in Organski's power transition theory, the study explores this framework's theoretical principles and empirical evidence while distinguishing it from classical realism. The review outlines the phases of power transition—potential power, transitional growth, and power maturity—and applies these phases to China's historical trajectory from an agrarian economy to an industrialized global power. Special emphasis is placed on pivotal milestones, including Mao Zedong's economic strategies, Deng Xiaoping's market reforms, and Xi Jinping's assertive policies such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Through the lens of power transition theory, the article highlights China's strategic efforts to challenge Western dominance, particularly the United States (US), and reshape the international order. This study raises critical questions about the future of global leadership and stability amidst the shifting power dynamics between a declining US and a rising China.

Abstract

This paper explores the role of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a key defense institution in safeguarding Israel’s national security following its conflict with Hamas, using defensive realism as the primary theoretical framework. This theory underscores the state’s priority in preserving security without seeking hegemonic power. Within this framework, the IDF is viewed as playing a crucial role in maintaining national integrity through military preparedness and air defense strategies, notably the deployment of the Iron Dome system to counter rocket threats from Hamas. The analysis also highlights the significance of defense diplomacy, particularly strategic cooperation with the United States, in enhancing the IDF’s operational capacity. By applying theoretical insights and case-based evidence, this paper demonstrates how the IDF effectively mitigates the impact of external threats and reinforces public security in a volatile post-conflict environment.

Abstract

This research aims to explain Indonesia's diplomacy to make Bahasa Indonesia an official language at UNESCO. This research was conducted because Indonesian is one of the languages with the largest number of speakers in the world. In addition, Indonesian is also a form of Indonesia's soft power to the world. This research applied the concept of language as power and diplomacy theory for analysis, utilizing a literature review approach. The results of this study show that Indonesian diplomacy is carried out through shutle diplomacy and total diplomacy, by mobilizing all components of the nation as well as sustainable actions in accordance with the mandate of the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation. So that all elements of the nation have a duty to do this through various ways. One of them is done through educational channels such as BIPA, or cooperative institutions with governments in various countries to study Indonesia comprehensively. This BIPA phenomenon is the first step to learning about Indonesia holistically. Indonesian diplomacy is also successful because various countries have used Indonesian as part of communication in addition to the official language, for example Vietnam, Canada, Poland, Australia etc.
