Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) involve top potential technologies that will dramatically change the way of human living and working. Many scientific, industrial and environmental applications require real time information related to physical events like pressure, temperature or humidity. In the past the only way to transfer the sensed data to control center was through cumbersome and costly wires. But recent advancement in wireless networking enables WSNs to communicate the sensed real time event data wirelessly. WSNs have capabilities of sensing, processing and communicating which make them most suitable for monitoring different on and gas industries upstream, midstream and downstream operations which help to increase production, decrease the accidents, maintenance cost and malfunctioning.

Abstract

Nowadays, we often see more and more of the various types of lights in urban areas, especially in road areas, either regarding the use of traffic lights or streetlights that serve as guides and signals to maintain road safety. Typically, the lamps use LED-based lamps as they can increase the rate of high savings. This LED conceptual light helps reduce energy wastage by using less power and reducing the consumption of heat and is suitable for day-to-day operation. The addition of ordinary LEDs to self-dimming systems based on the intensity of light around is more likely to increase the savings rate and is more environment-friendly. The scope of this research includes analytics data from the use of standard traffic lights and LED signal lights that are self-concept in dimmer systems. This research uses the IoT concept that is applied to the traffic system and uses solar energy which is indeed renewable natural energy and can affect the green earth concept to the traffic control system on the road.

Abstract

Blood is a vital fluid where required for saving human’s life. Blood is stored in a blood bank which is a bank of blood components, gathered as a result of blood donations that are responsible for collecting, storing and preserved for the use of medical purpose. Investigation of the existing blood collection and tracking system is essential to efficiently manage, control and monitor on all aspect of a blood bank. A comprehensive data acquisition system from collection location to a cloud-based system enables a paperless system with minimum human intervention to oversee the entire collection to dispatch process in a blood bank. A research has been made that most blood banks practicing stand-alone which may contribute to wastage of donated blood. For that matter, this collected data system allows connectivity between the blood banks to effectively conduct and systematically manage their daily activities within one integrated system. This application helps blood donation center receives the registered donated blood from any hospitals easily as it records the donated blood information in cloud immediately.

Abstract

The oil and gas industry deals with various challenges, and one of it is to comply with frequently changing environmental regulations in monitoring and management system. In this project, the focus will be in the necessity for oil and gas industry to monitor the movement of their employees especially for whom that were conducting tasks in remote areas to wisely optimise the runway resources while simultaneously reaching the needs of delivery schedules. To oversee the workers position, a comprehensive floor mapping system that indicates the real-time status of individuals is required on 24/7 basis. Therefore, the use of beacon system with IOT platform will be applied in this project. The concept is such as the employees are required to carry a customised beacon badge, for this badge will communicate valuable information to the Bluetooth gateway that coordinates the collected information to a cloud-based system for floor mapping process. In other words, an investigation and implementation of a beacon system through a Bluetooth gateway to a cloud-based system in accordance with IEEE 802.15 standard will work out.

Abstract

The analysis of brain signals and their properties yields significant insights into the fundamental neural impairments associated with attention bias in individuals suffering from public speaking anxiety (PSA). This study aims to identify electroencephalogram (EEG) and performance biomarkers of attention bias in individuals with public speaking anxiety using the ex-Gaussian modeling technique, frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA) and delta-beta correlation (DBC). 12 subjects with high (H) PSA and 12 subjects with low (L) PSA performed the modified emotional stroop task. EEG data were captured using the low-cost 14-channel emotiv Epoc+. Results showed that the ex-Gaussian sigma was higher in the emotional condition in the high public speaking anxiety (HPSA) group, indicating attention bias. The study also found higher right FAA in HPSA compared to LPSA group. There was a negative correlation between σ and alpha power in the left region of the brain in the HPSA group, potentially related to attentional bias. Moreover, there was a notable trend towards significantly heightened DBC in the frontal and central regions of the brain among HPSA subjects. In conclusion, in biomedical engineering, the ex-Gaussian model, FAA and DBC are useful because they can identify EEG and performance biomarkers of attention bias in people with PSA.

Abstract

The oil and gas industry is one of the world’s largest conglomerates, involving the production of complicated and critical methods for refining. This indicates the high necessity for a secure and reliable system, such as the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), which provides auspicious and flexible solutions for the industry. It is one of the most excellent and trendy solutions to the crisis existing within the oil and gas industry, especially in the midstream pipeline. In this application, the nodes were arranged in a linear architecture, to cover a long distance of the pipe. The factors causing the degradation of the overall network performance with increasing density were also identified, due to the increment of the load causing clogging and inhabiting the packet queue. This subsequently led to packet loss, throughput unfairness, higher power consumption, and passive nodes’ presence in the network. The proposed routing protocol (AODVEO) was also reactive based on the AODV reducing the instabilities by splitting the traffic into even and odd paths. Additionally, the performances of AODV and DSDV were used to benchmark the efficacy of the proposed routing protocol.
