Abstract

AbstractThis study examined and analyzed nine teachers' teaching practices with children in the sixth to seventh grades of primary school.   Effective teaching was discovered in this study to be dependent on three components of a classroom: 1) introduction – linking prior experience to the new issue; 2) sharing/discussing the primary topic; and 3) reflection/summarizing the lesson learned and new terms acquired. The findings indicated that students' learning and comprehension appeared to be contingent on the teacher's strategies for collaborating with students and constantly focusing their attention on the lesson (particularly on crucial features), which facilitated students' willingness to volunteer for discussion participation through open questions, constructive feedback, and so forth. Additionally, it provided teachers with insight on how to handle unforeseen classroom circumstances. For instance, numerous "attention-seeking" conflicts may arise, preventing the achievement of the objectives when time is spent on them. When reprimands and punishments are utilized, learners are reluctant to seek assistance or express their thoughts. Teachers must demonstrate their managerial competence by refraining to single out specific students in this situationAbstrakStudi ini meneliti dan menganalisis praktik mengajar sembilan guru dengan anak-anak di kelas enam hingga tujuh sekolah dasar. Abstract

This study investigates the pragmatic functions of laughter in everyday conversation and explores its interactional significance. The primary objective is to understand how laughter, beyond signaling humor, serves multiple communicative purposes across different social contexts. A corpus of forty-one spontaneous conversations was compiled, comprising 20 male-female and 21 same-gendered dyads, with participants aged between 18 and 29. Each session lasted approximately 1.5 hours, resulting in rich data for analysis. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative discourse analysis with quantitative frequency counts. Analytically, laughter was examined in terms of its placement, function, and response within interactional sequences. The findings reveal that laughter not only enriches discourse with humour but also facilitates inferencing, expresses relational closeness, mitigates face-threatening acts, prompts requests, eases conflict, and provides access to otherwise withheld information. Quantitative analysis highlighted notable gender-based patterns in initiated, responsive, and one-sided laughter. Male and female participants differed in how they used and responded to laughter, suggesting gendered communication tendencies. Overall, the study concludes that laughter plays a central role in shaping conversational dynamics and often functions as a barometer of interpersonal connection. It underscores the need to view laughter as a serious pragmatic tool embedded in the architecture of talk.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explain the benefits of watching English movies as an effective way to improve language skills. This method offers learners a practical and enjoyable way to enhance their English proficiency, including listening, speaking, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Watching movies allows learners to experience real conversations, different accents, and the correct use of English in daily life, making learning more meaningful and engaging. Using subtitles can help learners connect spoken words with their written forms. Beginners can start with subtitles in their native language and gradually switch to English subtitles to improve grammar and vocabulary. Movies with different accents, like American, British, or Australian, also help learners understand various ways of speaking English. Research supports the benefits of watching English movies for language learning. Studies show that movies help learners understand words in context, improve listening skills, and learn proper pronunciation. Repeating scenes, writing down new vocabulary, and practicing speaking based on movies enhance retention and usage. Moreover, movies introduce learners to different cultures, making learning more interesting and informative. This method is suitable for learners at all levels. Beginners can watch simple movies like animations, while advanced learners can explore movies with more complex dialogues. Rewatching movies helps learners notice new details, such as sentence structures and pronunciation, that they might have missed before. Discussing movies with others is also a fun way to practice speaking and critical thinking. In conclusion, watching English movies combines education and entertainment, providing learners with an enjoyable way to improve their English skills. It motivates learners, helps them understand authentic language use, and enriches their cultural knowledge, making it a valuable tool for language learning.
