Abstract

This study aims to explore the triple role of fishermen's wives, analyze how they contribute to their families' economy, and determine appropriate strategies for fishermen's wives to support household economies in the coastal area of Tegal City. This study finds that, on average, fishermen's wives have low educational levels and limited economic access. We use the mixed method (combining the quantitative and qualitative approaches) to analyze the data from 100 respondents selected with the purposive sampling method. Additionally, we also conduct in-depth interviews with selected key persons. Our results indicate that fishermen's wives in Tegalsari and Muarareja villages have triple roles (production, reproduction, and community management). They work to earn revenues while playing their domestic role (becoming housewives) and play active roles in their social lives. Further, these wives contribute significantly to their families' incomes. We then use ATLAS.ti as a qualitative analysis tool to analyze strategies for empowering fishermen's wives from the economic, cultural, and institutional aspects.

Abstract

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 2/PERMEN-KP/2015, sodo and trawlers are fishing gear prohibited from being used, especially by small fishers, because they are not environmentally friendly. However, many fishers still use this tool, one of whom is a fisherman who looks for fish in the waters of Tambakrejo, Semarang, which significantly disrupts the activities of Tambakrejo fishers. This study aims to identify the socio-demographic profile of Tambakrejo fishers, analyze the impact of using sodo and trawlers in Tambakrejo waters, and analyze strategies for handling the effect. This study uses primary data from semi-structured and in-depth interviews. The number of respondents in the study was 60, as determined by the purposive sampling method. This study uses a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative analysis in the form of descriptive analysis is needed to answer the first and second goals. At the same time, quantitative analysis is used to answer the third objective with the help of the Atlas.Ti tool. This study's results show that most fishers use traps and bamboo clumps. The dominating use of sodo and trawlers in Tambakrejo waters has an economic aspect in the form of reduced catches and damage to traps and clusters, as well as social aspects, namely the conflict between Tambakrejo fishers and fishers who use sodo and trawl nets. To deal with this impact, government intervention is needed in the form of water police patrols and strict action against fishers who use sod and trawl fishing gear. The results of this study are expected to be considered in formulating policies, especially fisheries policiesKeywords: Impact, trawlers, sodo, fishers, Tambakrejo

Abstract

This study aims to identify the vulnerability of small-scale fishermen in the Roban Coastal Area through fast variables and slow variables, identify the adaptive capacity of fishermen to social-ecological changes, and analyze the resilience strategy of fishermen in facing rapid social-ecological changes due to national strategy projects. The method used was a mixed method with descriptive statistical analysis and 100 small-scale fishermen were taken as samples through purposive sampling. The results obtained show that the level of vulnerability of small-scale fishermen is in the high vulnerability category with a score of 7.89, the most vulnerable indicator is dependence on nature. The Roban Coastal small-scale fishermen resilience strategy is carried out through interdependence between stakeholders (academics, business people, government, and community) by obtaining the results that need to pay attention to several aspects (social, environmental, economic) in facing changes so that fishermen have a resilient level of resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the relationship between economic growth, renewable energy, and industrial value added to CO2 emissions in ASEAN. The data used is panel data of 10 ASEAN countries from 2001-2020. This study uses the vector error correction model (VECM) for analysis. The estimation results show that CO2 emissions are only influenced by the CO2 variable itself in the previous period in the short term. In addition, economic growth and renewable energy significantly negatively affect CO2 emissions in the long term. Economic growth has the largest contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. The empirical findings also support the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) in ASEAN. However, industrial value added has no significant effect on CO2 emissions. This study has several policy implications. The government needs to 1) strengthen energy transition regulations to encourage the use of renewable energy, 2) increase investment in RD to stimulate green technology innovation, and 3) protect the environment to mitigate negative externalities of economic activity.

Abstract

Every household produces used cooking oil as waste that has no economic value. Some people still dispose of used cooking oil into water channels and soil, due to a lack of insight into the impact of this behavior on the environment. The Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank in Tinjomoyo Village became an educational place for the community to understand the importance of managing used cooking oil and providing economic opportunities for the community. This study aims to identify the characteristics of used cooking oil management at the Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank, describe the use of technology in the process of managing used cooking oil and wax at the Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank, analyze the economic value of used cooking oil management and strategies that can be developed to expand the network and use of technology in the management of used cooking oil at the Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank. The analysis was carried out using the recognition survey method, descriptive analysis, cost and return, transaction cost, and triangulation. It was found that they do not use any technology from the collection to the marketing stages in the Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank system. Strategies such the use of online questionnaires, collaborating with third parties, using e-commerce platforms to utilizing social media in marketing aspects can be used. Overall, the management of used cooking oil at the Ngudi Lestari Waste Bank not only contributes to the environment but also provides economic benefits to improve the economy of local residents. Abstract

This study aims to identify research trends regarding the relationship between education and women's participation in the workforce. A qualitative method is employed, using a systematic literature review. Data are collected from the Scopus database, consisting of 114 publication documents from 2000 to 2025. Data analysis is conducted using Vosviewer and Biblioshiny software. The findings show that research on education and women's economic participation has increased, peaking in 2021, with most publications appearing as journal articles in the social sciences. Thematic mapping identifies core research themes such as gender, education, employment, and sustainable development, with notable attention to socio-cultural barriers, technological inequality, and policy interventions. Although women’s educational attainment has improved globally, persistent challenges-such as social norms, limited access to formal employment, and inadequate policy support-continue to hinder their full economic participation. The study also reveals a significant gap in research on women's empowerment in certain sectors and highlights the necessity for cross-sectoral collaboration and further studies in underexplored regions. These findings are essential for strengthening the relationship between education and women’s economic empowerment, supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

This study examines the fishery efficiency in the northern and southern coastal regions of Central Java by applying the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. The efficiency measurement is based on three input variables (number of fishermen, boats, and fishing gear) and two output variables (total production value and quantity of fish produced). The analysis reveals that Tegal City is the most efficient region in Central Java's fisheries sector, followed by Rembang, Pati, and Batang. These regions demonstrate relatively optimal utilization of available fishing resources to generate high output. Tegal's efficiency can be attributed to its integrated fishing infrastructure, better market access, and effective fleet and labor management. In contrast, other regions showed lower efficiency due to underutilization of resources or operational constraints. The findings suggest the need for targeted policies to enhance technical efficiency in lagging areas, such as capacity-building programs, modernization of fishing gear, and improved value chain integration to support a more balanced and sustainable fisheries development across Central Java.
