Abstract

Abstract The objective of this study is to find out whether Fishbowl Technique can improve students’  Achievement  in speaking. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the second year students of SMA N 1 STTU Julu. The research was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle was three meetings and the second cycle was two meetings. The instruments for collecting data used speaking test for quantitative data and diary notes, questionnaires sheet, interview and observation sheet used for qualitative data. Based on the speaking test result, the students’ score kept improving in every test. In orientation test, the mean score was 46,05. In the test of cycle 1 the mean score was 60,05 and the mean score in the test of cycle 2 was 70,9. In line with the data, it was found that the fishbowl technique can improve students’ speaking achievement. Key Words : Speaking, Fishbowl Technique, Test, Data, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study concerns on Improving Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text by Using Movie Posters. The underlying objective of this study is to investigate whether teaching descriptive by using movie posters potentially improves students’ skill. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the research was class X of SMA SWASTA UTAMA MEDAN. The number of the students was 28. The procedure of the research was administrated into two cycles which each cycle consisted of three meetings. Each meeting included four steps namely: planning, action, observation and reflection. There were two kinds of data collected during the study, qualitative and quantitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data was the writing of descriptive text. The qualitative data were gathered by using diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet. Based on the data analysis, the mean of students’ scores in Test I was 45.71; Test II was 62.32 and Test III was 81.96. The quantitative & qualitative data showed that the students were interested in using movie poster as a media in learning descriptive text. The conclusion is the using of movie poster as a media in teaching-learning process improves students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.   Keywords: Descriptive Text, Movie Poster, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

Abstract This study deals with The Effect of Task Based Learning Strategy on Students’ achievement in Writing Narrative text. The strategy of this research was experimental research. The population of the research was nine parallel classes of the eleventh grade of SMA NEGERI 11 MEDAN totaling students 362 students. 20 percent of totaling students were taken out as the sample of experimental group and the control group by using random sampling technique. The data were collected by conducting an essay test of writing. The result of the test was analyzed statistically by applying the t-test formula. From the calculation, it was obtained that tobserved (3.529) higher that ttable (1.993) at the level of significance (α = 0.05) and df = 72. It means that the application of Task Based Learning Strategy on Students’ Achievement in writing Narrative Text was effective because the result showed that students’ score were higher after the treatment. In conclusion, it is acceptable that Task based learning Strategy gave a significance effect on students’ achievement in writing narrative story.   Key words: Task Based Learning Strategy, writing Achievement, Narrative Text
