Abstract

This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a sequential sampling technique to examine the application of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) among nurses in addressing global health challenges in the 21st century. The sample consisted of 12 nurses working in various settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and health centres, in Sulawesi and Kalimantan islands. Through a questionnaire comprising 10 closed-ended questions and 3 open-ended questions, the study evaluated the use of ESP in the workplace and the English language skills of the participants. The results, presented in a percentage table, indicate that the adoption of ESP in the workplace remains low, despite nurses having a strong understanding of advanced medical technology. However, there is a positive attitude toward international engagement, including participation in international seminars, preparation of professional correspondence in English, and volunteer activities in English-speaking countries. These findings underscore the need for targeted institutional training and support programs to enhance nurses' English language competencies and global skills, enabling them to contribute effectively to international health services. The study has limitations, including a small sample size that restricts the generalizability of the findings across Indonesia. Nevertheless, the inclusion of participants from diverse workplaces offers valuable insights into the use of English in central and eastern Indonesia. Future research should explore larger and more diverse samples and investigate the long-term impact of ESP training on professional development and global readiness among nurses.

Abstract

In this quantitative survey, the researchers aimed to investigate students' attitudes, perceptions, and experiences concerning the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) in English language instruction. The study involved fifteen students in class X of SMKN 1 Dampal Selatan. A questionnaire was used as an experimental tool to assess grammar learning. Data collection and analysis utilized a snowball technique. The questionnaire responses indicated that students generally had a positive attitude towards learning English and were familiar with GTM. They believed that learning grammar through translation waseasier, often used dictionaries, and appreciated teacher assistance with challenging words. However, they found grammar learning more challenging than expected and considered consistent learning necessary. Grouping words by category was seen as helpful, and mastering tenses was considered important for forming sentences. While students were open to structured sentence formation based on tenses, they expressed a preference for group work over individual activities.

Abstract

This study aims to measure students’ interest in using ChatGPT to teach English using the debate clinic method to improve students’ speaking skills. Descriptive quantitative research involving 14 students of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program, STAI DDI Pinrang, used a questionnaire to measure four indicators of learning interest: feelings of pleasure, interest, paying attention, and involvement. The results revealed that the student’s average score of learning interest reached 77, indicating a relatively high interest. Students’ participation in formulating and refuting arguments during debates proves that ChatGPT positively impacts the development of students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, this study contributes to developing technology-based pedagogy, especially in academic debate. Integrating ChatGPT in the debate process allows teachers to create a more dynamic and interactive learning environment where students can be more actively involved. However, the study has several limitations. First, the limited number of samples, so generalizing the study results may not apply to a broader population. Additionally, it only focused on one study program at one institution, so the results may not reflect the situation at other institutions. Therefore, further research can explore other factors that influence learning interest, such as pedagogical aspects and technology used in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze whether English textbooks at SDN 04 Maiwa Enrekang as local content accommodate local content and contain contextual or authentic material. The method used is qualitative content analysis with a directed approach to the book "Speed Up English 6" based on the KTSP Curriculum. Results showed that five of the eight chapters contained aspects of local content, although local culture was not explicitly presented. Moreover, this book contains more grammatical material and material that is not completely contextual or authentic. Even though Indonesia has entered the transition period of the Kurikulum Merdeka, SDN 04 Maiwa still uses KTSP-based books for English as local content. The research recommends the development of more contextual and authentic teaching materials, as well as strengthening the position of English as a mandatory competency in order to prepare for the upcoming curriculum.

Abstract

−This program was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Laut Tengah, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. The partner school faced challenges related to students’ limited awareness of environmental sanitation and waste management within the school environment. Preliminary observations indicated that various types of non-organic waste such as plastic, cardboard, straws, and food packaging were still found scattered in several areas of the school. This condition suggested that students’ understanding of environmental sanitation and waste management needed to be strengthened through participatory educational activities. The purpose of this community service program was to enhance students’ understanding of environmental sanitation and to provide direct learning experiences through creative recycling activities using non-organic waste materials. The activity employed an educational and participatory project-based approach involving 54 students from grades VII and VIII. The program was implemented through several stages, including the delivery of educational materials on environmental sanitation, interactive discussions, an evaluation quiz, and practical activities involving the reuse of non-organic waste to produce simple handicrafts. The results showed that most students were able to understand the material presented, as indicated by quiz results with correct response rates ranging from 74 percent to 100 percent. In addition, the recycling practice encouraged students to recognize that waste materials could be reused and transformed into useful products. The program not only improved students’ initial understanding of environmental sanitation but also provided valuable learning experiences for university students who served as facilitators in the activity. Overall, the program contributed to raising environmental awareness among students and supported the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation

Abstract

This study aims to determine the physical fitness level of the SDN 3 Batulicin football team. The background of this study is based on the importance of physical fitness as a fundamental foundation for supporting football performance, particularly at the elementary school level. In football, players are required to possess adequate physical capacity in order to maintain playing intensity, execute techniques effectively, and complete matches without experiencing excessive fatigue. Based on preliminary observations, the SDN 3 Batulicin football team showed indications that the players’ fitness condition was not yet optimal; therefore, a systematic assessment was necessary. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey method. The research subjects consisted of 25 students, all of whom were members of the SDN 3 Batulicin football team. The instrument used was the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (Tes Kebugaran Jasmani Indonesia/TKJI) for children aged 10–12 years, which includes the 40-meter sprint, pull-up, sit-up, vertical jump, and 600-meter run. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of mean, median, standard deviation, minimum score, maximum score, frequency distribution, and percentage. The results showed that the physical fitness level of the SDN 3 Batulicin football team was in the moderate category. These findings confirm that the students already possess a sufficient basic level of physical ability to participate in football activities, although it is not yet fully optimal to support stable and sustainable performance. Thus, the main premise of this study is confirmed: physical fitness is an important aspect that deserves attention in the development of youth football. This study recommends the need for a more structured, gradual, and age-appropriate physical training program, tailored to the characteristics of elementary school students, in order to improve physical fitness quality and support the achievement of better performance outcomes.     Keyword: Physical Fitness; Indonesian Physical Fitness Test; Soccer; Elementary School Students.
