Abstract

Planning Operation subdivision at PT Pertamina has to generate supply decisions includingmain depot to supply, supply point and transportation mode. However, the variability inplanning a supply schedule renders the process of determining a supply decision asineffective. The last assessment on uncertainties was done at 2006 and has not beenconsidered during decision making process. On the other hand, the result of this researchindicates that the uncertainty level is too high to be ignored and the poor informationexchange between the regional offices and the head office decreases the Planning Operation’sability to create plans that covers the company condition. This paper proposes an appropriatesafety stock to withstand the uncertainties and a supply scheduling process that also considersuncertainties by using Monte-Carlo Simulation with random numbers to simulate the events inthe upcoming period.Key words: inventory management, distribution planning, managing uncertainties, montecarlosimulation

Abstract

Inventory management plays an important role in business activity for fulfilling the demandfrom the customer. Mahanagari Bandung Pisan, a retail company that runs its business indesigning and creating the merchandise of Bandung, currently faces a problem within itsinventory management of T-shirt, the main product of the company that contributes about 79percent of the whole total sales. The company produces a high number of inventories, butthere is still lost sales occurred. This research is aimed at reviewing and finding the rootcauses of the problems occurred within inventory management of T-shirt in MahanagariBandung Pisan, by using the concept of inventory cycle for describing the current systemimplemented by Mahanagari Bandung Pisan in planning and managing the inventory of Tshirt. From the research, there are four main problems faced by the company in managing theinventory of the T-shirt. Those problems are inaccurate forecasting, unfixed schedule inordering the T-shirt to the vendor, lateness from vendor, and the office does not know currentcondition of T-shirt’s inventory. This paper proposed some solutions for solving the problem, which are combining the intuitive prediction method with moving average model for gettingthe more accurate demand forecasting, making the timeline in controlling and producing theinventory of T-shirt, implementing periodical control system and put a clause about sanctionin the contract made by Mahanagari Bandung Pisan and the vendor and controlling thesalesperson everyday and creating the rules about inventory recording.Key words: inventory management, inventory cycle, mahanagari bandung pisan, forecasting,t-shirt

Abstract

Innovation enables companies to attain consistent organic growth that brings benefits to stakeholders. Designthinking approach in innovation has been emergent to be an alternative to technological development path inorder to generate competitive and successful product or service in the market place. Design driven innovationcombines functional and semantic dimensions of products or services in the marketplace. Previous researchhas recently revealed practices of design driven innovation in various industries. However, little is known tothe extent that companies in Indonesia practicing design driven innovation. A theoretical framework withperspective from dynamic capability theoretical lens and guided by Dubin’s theory building methodology isproposed to explain the constructs and role of design in the process of innovation. The research is expected tocontribute a new construct to the existing framework, namely construct that related to how we could assessthe value of the design-driven innovation output, perceived by the costumers. Keywords: design driven innovation, dynamic capabilities, theory building
