Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fenomena kemiskinan dan perlaku konsumtif masyarakat petani cengkeh Desa Watumite, Kecamatan Nangapanda, KabupatenEnde, NTT. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografis. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa (1)masyarakat Watumite memiliki pandangan sendiri mengenai kemiskinan antara lain jika tidak bisa menyelenggarakan pesta, tidak bisa menyekolahkan anak, dan tidak memiliki rumah batu, (2)Bentuk-bentuk perilaku konsumtif masyarakat Desa Watumite antara lain perilaku konsumtif untuk keperluan pesta dan untuk keperluan hiburan dan rekreasi, (3)Faktor yang mendorong masyarakat melakukan perilaku konsumtif antara lain menginginkan pengakuan statu sosial di masyarakat, adanya pengaruh budaya luar , pendapatan petani cengkeh yang tinggi, budaya atau tradisi, teknologi. This article aims to find out the phenomenon of poverty and consumptive behavior of clove farmers community in Watumite Village, District Nangapanda, Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This research uses qualitative method with ethnographic approach. The results of this study found that (1) the Watumite community has its own views on poverty, among others, if it can not organize a festivity, can not send children to school, and has no permanent house, (2) Consumtive behavior forms of Watumite villagers include consumptive behavior for festivity puposes and for recreational purposes (3) Some factor that encourage people to engage in consumptive behaviors such as social statue recognition in the community, the influence of external culture, high income of clove farmers, culture or tradition, and technology.
