Abstract

This article discusses the ecocentrism values in the Pasang tradition of the Kajang ethnic community (Pasang ri Kajang) in South Sulawesi. Garrard Greg's ecocritical approach reveals the relationship between humans and the environment in the Pasang ri Kajang tradition. Data were collected through interviews, literature studies, and text analysis and then analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the Kajang ethnic community based on Pasang ri Kajang guides their lives through the principles of kamase-masea (simple living), lambusu (honesty), gettang (firmness), and sabbara na appisona (patient and sincere) in everyday life. Pasang ri Kajang regulates the management and utilization of forests in settlements. Forests by the Kajang ethnic group are divided into three areas: borong karamaka (sacred forest), borong batasayya (border forest), and borong luara' (people's forest). The ecocentric values in Pasang ri Kajang that were found were 1) nature as the center of human life, 2) interdependence of humans with nature, and 3) harmony between humans and nature. These three ecocentrism values emphasize that Pasang ri Kajang can be a source of environmental conservation models based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study highlights the critical role of Islamic education in shaping students’ environmentally responsible character – an urgent imperative in light of escalating environmental degradation. This study aims to examine the integration of Islamic educational values and fiqh al-bi’ah into the curriculum, analyze the implementation of character-building programs that promote environmental awareness, and explore the implications of this integration for developing students’ environmentally caring character. Using a qualitative multisite approach, data were gathered through interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers, students, and school officials at MTsN 8 Blitar and MTsN 2 Kediri. Thematic analysis revealed that integrating Islamic educational values and fiqh al-bi’ah significantly improved students’ ecological responsibility. Activities such as tree planting, composting, and school-wide waste management fostered consistent pro-environmental behavior grounded in religious teachings. The research concludes that this integration encourages active student participation and awareness by embedding Islamic environmental ethics into both curricular and extracurricular activities in a systematic, multidisciplinary, and collaborative manner. This approach builds environmentally conscious character and aligns with broader goals such as sustainable development. The study recommends replicating this model in other Islamic educational institutions to promote ecological awareness and responsibility among future generations.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Sinrilik traditional music training and mentoring for students at Yala Rajabhat University, Thailand, as an effort to preserve intangible cultural heritage and strengthen cross-cultural relations between Indonesia and Thailand. Sinrilik, a performing art combining oral narratives and traditional musical instruments, serves not only as an aesthetic expression but also as a medium for character education, embedding values such as courage, honesty, and the pursuit of knowledge. This program employed a participatory and educational approach, integrating participatory learning, storytelling pedagogy, demonstrations, and reflective discussions. The results indicate that the training successfully enhanced students’ cultural awareness, technical musical skills, and appreciation of local wisdom. Furthermore, the program fostered a sense of identity and belonging among participants, bridging generational and cultural gaps. The establishment of the “Anak Sinrilik Yala” community reflects the sustainability and long-term impact of the initiative, supported by the involvement of local educators. This study concludes that traditional music training can function as an effective instrument for cultural preservation, character education, and cultural diplomacy. It highlights the importance of integrating local cultural content into educational practices to counter the challenges posed by globalization and modernization
