Abstract

Objective: This study reviews eruption cysts in children and their management related to dental and oral health. It also presents a case report of a 6-year-old boy diagnosed with an eruption cyst on tooth 21.Method: Surgical exposure was performed under local anesthesia, exposing the tooth's crown, removing the remaining root 62, and applying pressure packs for 10 minutes to stop the bleeding.Result: The tooth showed a regular eruption pattern following the removal of the cystic lesion. Therefore, the patient was kept on regular recall. After one month, the tooth erupted in the oral cavity. Conclusion: Surgical intervention is often considered in symptomatic cases where the erupting cyst is painful, bleeding, or infectious, whereas no treatment is required in asymptomatic patients. So, it is crucial to have sound knowledge amongst clinicians regarding eruption cysts to provide proper treatment and reassure the apprehensive parents regarding this lesion.

Abstract

Background: We report a case of intoxication caused by Diefenbachia plant. A 7-year-old boy came to the pediatric dentistry department with complaints of pain in the oral cavity, especially in the tongue and buccal mucosa, tongue swelling, itching, burning, difficulty swallowing, weak condition, vomiting and abdominal pain after it was known that a few hours earlier while playing with his peers he was asked to eat ornamental plants around the house. While in the emergency room, treatment was given with lactated Ringer's infusion, 5 mg dexamethasone injection intra venously, 7 mg diphenhydramine injection intra venously and then decided to be hospitalised. Objective: To report a case of Dieffenbachia toxicity in the oral cavity especially in children. Conclusion: The paediatric patient whose oral cavity was exposed to Diefenbachia recovered with supportive care on day 5. Obtaining history from the patient regarding the plant involved is very important. Paediatric dentists must still be aware of other possibilities that can risk damaging the soft tissues of the oral cavity and can even cause death if not treated properly and quickly even though the patient can recover very well

Abstract

Objective: This study reviews lower lip mucocele in children and its management. It also presents a case report of a 14-year-old-girl diagnosed with a lower lip mucocele.Method: Excision surgery was performed under local anesthesia, and mucocele was incised vertically so that separates the mucosa on it. The mucocele was resected from the base, suturing was made and removed on the 10th day.Result: On the sixth day had been removed suture, patient controlled. The scar appeared to have closed entirely and the hyperemic was not visible. Conclusion: Excision surgery is still an option treatment although considered a conservative way to remove the mucocele. This technique does not cause excessive bleeding with rapid wound healing. It does not require special equipment, is inexpensive, and can be performed by the dentist.

Intraoral examination showed the residual teeth 16, superficial caries in teeth 26, agenesis  12, delayed resorption  53, maxillary anterior teeth diastemas, crowding of the lower anterior teeth, deep bite, glossitis, and macroglossia tongue.Method: Various methods of behavioral approach were carried out at each visit. Treatment began from changing children's behavior, providing dental health education, filling cavities, scalling and applying fluoride topically.Result: In six visits, noticeable changes in plaque scores are getting better and children were more cooperative, caries dental has successfully restored, and topical fluoride  applied.Conclussion : Oral health management of patients with intellectual disabilities is different from normal patient.  Dentists must approach the patient according to the level of intellectual disability and know the complications of hypothyroid disease to avoid complications during dental treatment.

Abstract

Anterior crossbite can cause pathological conditions in the periodontal tissues, such as tooth mobility similar to dentoalveolar post-traumatic conditions. An 8-year-old boy presented with complaints of mobility in the mandibular anterior teeth. Dental trauma treatment using splints worsened the patient's condition. Through communication and pedodontic triangle principle, it was diag-nosed as periodontal abscess due to anterior crossbite. Treatment was carried out using a bite elevation on the posterior teeth as it did not increase the occlusal pressure load received on the mandibular anterior teeth. The crossbite was corrected and the periodontal status improved within 7 days. It was concluded that diagnosis in children is challenging due to frequent misdiag-nosis. Treatment of periodontal abscess due to anterior crossbite using bite elevation on posterior teeth as it is considered as an emergency treatment to reduce occlusal pressure on mandibular anterior teeth.

Abstract

Global developmental delay (GDD) is a developmental disability involving two or more developmental domains, namely gross/ fine motor, speech/language, cognition, social/personal and daily activities. This article discusses dental care and dental beha-viour management in a 4-year-old boy with GDD. The condition of the child's oral cavity needs comprehensive treatment be-cause the damage affects all existing teeth, disrupting eating patterns and affecting the child's nutritional intake. Multiple tooth extractions and multiple dental restorations under general anaesthesia were performed. The post-extraction wound has closed well and all dental caries have been restored, so the child's food intake has increased. It was concluded that successful dental treatment in children with GDD is influenced by patient co-operation and overall medical condition. It is important for parents to take proactive steps to ensure that children receive the necessary dental care.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the relationship between various caries risk factors and DMF-T status in children with autism spec-trum disorders (ASD). The study was conducted cross-sectionally on 56 students at Yayasan Darul Fikri Makassar from Janua-ry to May 2024. Data were collected through clinical examination, salivary pH measurement, and questionnaires related to dental care behaviour and food consumption. Data analysed using the chi-square test showed a significant relationship between sali-vary pH and regular visits to the dentist with DMF-T status (p<0.05), while socioeconomic factors, sugar consumption, brushing frequency, and fluoride toothpaste use did not show a significant relationship. It was concluded that salivary pH and regular den-tal visits are important in caries prevention in ASD children.
