The mechanism of blindness by fundus anomalia was presented. The criteria of blindness were determined by visual acuity 3/60 or less. During a one-year period from januafy to December 1983 there were found 71 cases of blindness of both eyes and-78 cases of blindness of one eye. The kinds of blindness found at Dr. Sardjito Hospital were retinitis/choziorecinitis 27 patients, retinopathy 17 patients, glaucoma 69 patients, N 11 atrophy 16 patients, macula degeneration 2 patients, and retinal bleeding 2 patients, All the blindness were irreversible. Key Words: blindness - fundus anomalia - chorioretinitis retinopathy glaucoma

Keratitis ulcerosa is a common disease in Yogyakarta and surrounding: This disease will cause blindness without good and right management. Usually it is encountered in rural areas caused by mud or pin, some materials in the field, for example wood or leaf and other corpora aliena. When complication occurs, perforation happens, resulting in total blindness. The treatment is easy when administered immediately. Sometimes there are difficult cases of keratitis ulcerosa which are resistent to treatment and need referral to the eye hospital after simple treatment is found to be unsuccessful in one week. From data presented the simple treatment is successful enough.Key Words: keratitis ulcerosa - health center - blindness - hypopyon - Aureomonas hydrophila

Simple glaucomas are charaterized by an elevated intra ocular pressure (10P) and, are an important cause of blindness in the world. The blindness is due to the optic nerve atrophy and is found more frequently in women. It has been reported that high activity of G6PD isozyme can reduce the ocular pressure in the calf eyes. The activity of G6PD isozyme in the blood of simple glaucoma patients has been examined, and compared to those of normal persons. This study consisted of 76 patients of simple glaucoma (41 men and 35 women) and 30 normal persons as a control group. The 10P of both patients and control group was measured by using a Schiotz tonometer. The average of the G6PD isozyme activity was 9.40 ulg Hb in the simple glaucoma and 10.94 u/g Hb in control group. The two G6PD isozyme activity showed a significant difference. It can be concluded that the activity of G6PD isozyme of simple glaucoma patients were lower than those of normal persons without glaucoma symptoms.Key Words : isozyme - G6PD - glaucoma

The corneal curvature is an important medium refractum because it gives the strongest refraction. The measurement of corneal curve has a direct connection with refraction. The measurements of the emmetropic, myopic, hypermetropic and astigmatic cornea have been presented. The mean of the emmetropic cornea! curve was 42.796 D, that of the myopic was 44.275 D. Statistically, there was significant difference between those of emmetropic and myopic cornea. The mean curve of hypermetropic eyes was 42.843 D. However, statistically there was no difference between the emmetropic and hypermetropic corneal curve. In astigmatism there were always differences between the vertical and horizontal curves. Key Words: corneal curve - emmetropy - myopy - hypermetropy - astigmatism

The results of binocular cataract extraction with local anaesthetic are presented, which are good enough and not different compared with monocular cataract operations in The Eye Hospital of Gadjah Mada University. By binocular cataract extraction the hospital stay of the patient is very short and is less expensive compared with one by one operation.Key Words: binocular cataract extraction - cataracts senilis - corpus vitreum zonulysis - glaucoma

Presbyopia is a problem of old people. Usually asthenopic symptoms begin when the patients approach 40 years old. Refraction anomalies of hypermetropia and myopia influence directly the measure of reading spectacles, so that both these anomalies influence the possibility of asthenopic symptoms. Data from Outââ¬Â¢Patient Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Sardjito Hospital, during 6 months were 92 presbyopicââ¬Â¢emmetropic, 15 presbyopic-myopic, and 75 presbyopic-hypermetropic. The asthenopic symptoms which excite patients to go for medical consultation were not in conformity with the theory concerning asthenopic symptoms. Key Words: presbyopia emmetropia ââ¬â hypermetropia ââ¬â myopia ââ¬â asthenopia
