Abstract

Bartholin cyst is a cystic enlargement of Bartholin gland duct caused by an obstruction. Abstract

Indonesia is still in an ongoing trend of positive cases and deaths caused by COVID-19. This condition urges health care facilities to reduce length of stay for more efficient health resources management and higher quality of care. Adjuvant therapy to hospitalized patients includes convalesent plasma therapy (CPT). This review aims to determine the effect of CPT on length of stay of COVID-19 patients in comparison to standard therapy. Literature search is through hand searching and through four databases: PubMed, Cochrane, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. Keywords used are: convalescent plasma, COVID-19 therapy, COVID-19 serotherapy, length of stay. Selection through eligibility criteria resulted in one systematic review article, then critically appraised by its’ validity, importance, and applicability. The article selected is valid and important, yet lack of applicability due to discrepancy in demographics and clinical conditions. The review concluded that CPT does not affect the length of stay of COVID-19 patients. More research with similiar demographics and clinical conditions are needed to achieve highest level of certainty.

Abstract

Introduction: Biliary atresia is the most common cause of progressive liver disease in children. Studies have shown that biliary atresia causes impairment of cognitive and motor development in children. This study was conducted to establish a systematic review that examines the relationship between biliary atresia and developmental disorders in children. Methods: Literature searching from electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane, and SCOPUS) and hand searching were performed. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to the selected studies. The selected studies were assessed for the risk of biases of each study. The results of each study were summarized and compared in a summary table.Result: A total of nine relevant studies were obtained from a systematic search through the electronic databases and external resources using specific keywords. Seven of nine studies reported that biliary atresia affects both children’s cognitive and motor development. Conclusion: Children with biliary atresia are generally suspected of having impaired cognitive and motor development. The relationship between surgical intervention in children with biliary atresia with cognitive and motor development in children is still unclear. Further studies are needed to determine the cognitive and motor development of children with biliary atresia before and after surgical intervention.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the main health problems in Indonesia is respiratory disease. Respiratory disease can be caused by fungus, so-called lung mycosis. The fungi species that cause respiratory infections in humans range from Candida sp. to more dangerous species such as Aspergillus fumigatus. Culture methods using respiratory specimens, especially sputum, can be used to identify species of fungi that cause pulmonary mycosis. Aim this study was conducted to compare the culture results between conventional culture methods on sloped agar and high volume culture method on plate.Method: This study used a cross-sectional design in which the data of culture results were obtained from different culture methods.Result: High volume culture method grew more colonies including Aspergillus fumigatus than conventional culture method which grew no Aspergillus fumigatus. The correlation of data between culture methods and culture results were analyzed with McNemar test and it showed p=0.000.Conclusion: The relationship between the culture method and culture results has a significant correlation (p less than 0.05). Therefore, high volume culture was a better method to grow more fungal colonies including Aspergillus fumigatus than conventional culture methods.
