Abstract

The article provides a detailed account of the development of Tanjung Priok Port, from its establishment in 1883 to when it was equipped with a station in 1925. The port was built in response to the opening of the Suez Canal in Egypt, which significantly impacted the maritime development of Europe to the Far East, including the Dutch East Indies. The rapidly growing shipping activities, which relied on sea routes, could no longer be accommodated by the Sunda Kelapa Harbour. Consequently, the government decided to construct Tanjung Priok port. This study uses a historical method that includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The author discusses various aspects of Tanjung Priok Port, namely the construction process, the port's condition, development, and supporting elements. Additionally, the article covers the port activities before the formal institutional establishment of Tanjung Priok Port

Abstract

This article discusses the forms of patrimonialism that occurred during the New Order era with a case study of Taman Ismail Marzuki. The state's involvement in hegemony in the field of culture transforms into Javanese power politics present in the post-colonial era so that the state fully controls the activities of artists in one space. As a public space, Taman Ismail Marzuki cannot be separated from political intervention, which has made it an arena for contestation between artists and the state. The New Order's patrimonial practice at Taman Ismail Marzuki lasted from 1968 to 1998, allowing the state to control artists for legitimisation purposes. The questions raised in this article include: why did the state build Taman Ismail Marzuki? How did the state utilise Taman Ismail Marzuki as its political project? Who are the actors in Taman Ismail Marzuki? This article uses the historical method which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The research uses the concept of patrimonialism and departs from the concept, there are results and findings that the author describes including: (1) Patrimonialism in the Culture, (2) Negotiation Space of Politics and Culture, (3) The State Takes the Role of Culture and (4) Criticising New Order Politics.

Abstract

The study of political cannot be separated from the scope of its study which leads to power and policy. On the one hand, study of political can also be seen in the case of planning the construction of the national capital. National capitals, like building a city, can characterize the ideology and mentality of the rulers, and it is not uncommon for cities to serve as political legitimacy and historical memorials. This article uses the critical historical method with the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. This research focuses on the forms of failure of the relocation of the national capital shown through historical events. Based on this research, there are findings that become the novelty of the article including: The Relocation of the Capital in the Dutch East Indies Period, the State Capital in the Soekarno and New Order Eras and its Development. The three findings show that there are similarities in the forms of failure that make Jakarta have the magic so that its status remains as the capital of the country. Through the forms of failure to relocate the national capital, the failure can be caused by errors in policy direction and decision-making that have an impact on state losses.
