Abstract

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is a musculotendinous degenerative disease of the extensors originthat occurs at the humerus lateral epicondyle. Various methodologies of treatment are utilized in theboard of lateral epicondylitis.Objectives: The study will investigate the efficacy of the supervised exercise programme and cyriaxphysiotherapy on the refinement of pain and the functional within Lateral epicondylitis patients.Methods: Participants (n=30) with Lateral Epicondylitis (tennis elbow) shall be recruited to participatein a comparative experimental study. Subjects will be randomized 1:1 to either (1) Supervised ExerciseProgramme group, or (2) Cyriax Physiotherapy group. Over a 4-week time period, a 3 times in weekfor the total of 12 sessions, subjects in supervised exercise programme group will receive the ExtensorCarpi Radialis Brevis muscle’s static stretching along with the wrist extensor’s eccentric strengtheningand Ultrasound. While those in group of cyriax physiotherapy will receive transverse deep frictionmassage for the time of 10 min instantly amid by Mill’s manipulation/manoeuvre and Ultrasound. Thestudy will be conclude at the 4 weeks.Discussion: Effectiveness of the interventions on the pain and the functional improvement will beassessed by VAS (visual analogue scale) and the Tennis Elbow Function Scale (TEFS) respectively. Thefindings of the study will greatly contribute for the evidence on the utilization of the supervised exerciseprogramme and therefore the cyriax physiotherapy in tennis elbow condition.Conclusion: After the statistical analysis of the results, final statements regarding the conclusion ofwhich treatment approaches is effective will be made.

Abstract

Introduction: Snapping hip syndrome or “coxa saltans,” sometimes called as dancer’s hip, is seen in balletdancers. It is a condition caused by the movement of tendon or a muscle over a bony eminence in the hip inwhich snapping sound is heard or snapping sensation is felt when a person walks, runs, swing leg aroundor get up from a chair. Snapping Hip Syndrome is just associated with the snapping sound and no suchdiscomfort or pain is felt. Patients chief complaints were Low back pain radiating down her right leg andsometimes a click sound heard in her right hip. Experts estimate that 5 to 10 percent of the population hassnapping hips with no symptoms or pain, and no treatment is necessary. On the other half some individualshas irritating pain which requires treatment or surgery. Diagnosis of External Snapping Hip Syndrome wasconfirmed when detail evaluation of patient was done using Special test - SLUMPS and Straight Leg Raise(SLR) test, Faber’s test and Ober’s test and Harris Hip Score was also noted.Conclusion: This case report provides a comprehensive rehabilitation plan that helped relieve pain, spasm,increase strength and range of motion. Physiotherapy intervention includes stretching of the tighten muscleand purposeful strengthening to decrease pain and disability of patient. Physiotherapy treatment is foundto be best to resolve patient’s chief complaints. Improving the disability and Social skill improvement waschecked by using Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) and Quality of Life (QOL).

Abstract

Background: The elbow, intermediate joint of the upper limb, frequently undergoes pathological events andis especially prone to stiffness. Patients lose his capacity to conduct the compensatory movements whichmay result in intolerance. Fracture and dislocations are commonly seen in the individuals. Careful evaluationis must before treatment. Physical therapy plays an important role in recovering functional activities.Methods/Design: The study will be designed as a Randomized Control Trial. Total 20 participants will beselected as per inclusion and exclusion criteria from AVBRH and RNPC OPD, Sawangi (Meghe). Durationof the study will be 6 months. 20 subjects will be grouped into two out of which 1 group of participantswill receive Stretching (static stretching) and group 2 will receive Muscle energy technique (Post isometricrelaxation). Visual Analogue Scale for Pain and Assessment of Range of Motion using Universal Goniometerwill be the outcome measures for the patient.Result: Outcome measures of the patient using muscle energy technique can have more effectiveness ascompared to stretching. It may help to regain muscle strength and the patient will be able to perform thecompensatory movement in adjacent joints.Conclusion: Will be published after the results are analyzed..

Abstract

Background: Paraplegia defined as near total dysfunction of the entire or part of the trunk and both lowerlimbs, caused by lesions of the thoracic or lumbar spinal cord or cauda equina. 43% of SCI results inparaplegia for thoracic, lumbar, or sacral lesion. The purpose of physical therapy management is to makethe patient relaxed and to achieve pre-ambulatory preparations, pre-ambulatory activities and ambulationactivities.Methods/Design: The study will be designed as experimental study. Total 60 participants will be selectedas per inclusion and exclusion criteria from AVBRH, Sawangi Meghe for the study. The duration of studywill 6 months with intervention. Physiotherapy intervention includes respiratory care, skin protection,range of motions and early reinforcement, early mobility activity, bed mobility skills, transfer activitiesand wheelchair skills. ASIA Impairment Scale, Functional Independent Measure, Wheelchair Skill Test,WHOQOL-BREF will be major outcome measure for the patient.Discussion: The study protocol details, in people with SCI the intervention strategy selected is largely basedon the amount of preserved motor function. Independence in functional skills in patients with completemotor SCI (ASIA A and B) is largely achieved through compensatory mechanisms and interventions aredeveloped accordingly. Expected outcome from the study will be the effects of early pre-ambulatory trainingon functional mobility skills and quality of life in low paraplegia.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common condition associated with work absenteeism, disabilityand large health care costs with an annual prevalence range from 22% to 65%.Chronic low back pain is thecondition where the back pain lasts for more than three months. Lumbar traction is the process of applying astretching force to the lumbar vertebrae through body weight, weights, and/or pulleys to distract individualjoints of the lumbar spine. Myofascial release (MFR) is a form of manual medicine which involves theapplication of a low load, long duration stretch to the myofascial complex, intended to restore optimallength, decrease pain, and improve function. Medicated steam therapy is a method of giving medicatedsteam over the affected muscular area in order to provide local effect of pain relief. All the three methodswill be applied together to see the effect.Methods/Design: The study will be designed as a pilot study. A total of 30 samples will be taken withnonspecific low back pain. NPRS and Modified Oswestry Disability index was taken before treatment.Intervention including traction, myofascial release therapy and medicated steam will be given. . Two sessionswill be given once a week for 3 weeks and outcome will be recorded.Discussion: Various studies have been conducted over the effect of lumbar traction over low back pain.Traction distracts the muscles and the joint helps in relieving the pain. One of the therapeutic options istraction, which can be combined with other physical therapy modalities. Combining effect of traction withhot fermentation has been effective study have shown. Abstract

Background – Badminton is one of the most active recreational sport played in India. Different trainingprograms have become common to boost the athletic performance and advantages. Some of them areplyometric workouts, gyms, free body weight exercises and resistance exercises. Ballistic Six training isgiven to strengthen the muscles of the rotator cuff with overhead throwing activity to prevent injury to theshoulder whereas therabands with a combination of physical strength and warm-up movements are done formedical issuesObjective – To compare the effects of Ballistic Six exercises and thera-band exercises on strength, agility,speed and function in badminton players.Method - 40 participants aged between 18 – 25 years, playing on regular basis will be targeted in this study.Players will be split randomly into groups A (plyometric group) and B (thera-band group). All the trainingsessions will be initiated after a 10 minutes of warm up session. Protocol given will be twice a week for 8weeks. Main outcomes will be Seated Medicine Ball Throw for shoulder strength, Closed Kinetic ChainUpper Extremity Stability Test for agility, Plate Tapping Test for speed and Kerlan – Jobe Orthopaedic ClinicShoulder & Elbow Score questionnaire will be used to assess the shoulder function. All assessments will bedone at baseline and at the end of 8 - weeks training session. Follow – up will be taken at end of 6 – month.Results – This study aims to compare effectiveness of two strengthening protocols, that is, Ballistic Sixexercise and Thera-band exercises, in young badminton players. Results of this study will depend onoutcome measures that are shoulder strength, agility, speed and function.Conclusion – To conclude, this research may help badminton players to enhance their performance throughthe better exercise protocol.

Abstract

Background - Osteoarthritis of knee being of the major causes for disability in older population. Due tosedentary lifestyle this disease is becoming common in younger population as well. As prevalence of thedisease is increasing it is a need of the hour to come up with a highly reliable exercise protocol which will bebeneficial for the patients. This research aims to establish a beneficial and reliable exercise protocol whichcan be well tolerated by the patients suffering from osteoarthritis of knee.Methods – 150 subjects will be selected. Randomly they will be assigned to two groups that is Group A andGroup B using chit method. Group A will receive Blood Flow Restriction Training and Group B will receiveretro walking training. Training will continue for 15 days. After 15 days patient will be reassessed for pain,strength and WOMAC score.Result – Studies have proved that Blood Flow Restriction Therapy and retro walking both the interventionare beneficial in patients of osteoarthritis to reduce pain, improve strength and WOMAC score. This studywill provide us an intervention which is beneficial in treating osteoarthritis and is well tolerated by thepatients. We may get a result where blood flow restriction would have a better impact on few outcomemeasures while retro walking may fetch better impact on other outcome measures. We may also concludethat combination of both the interventions is a better option for the treatment of osteoarthritis patients.

Abstract

Introduction -Locked facet joint is a type of facet joint dislocation which occurs due to jumping of the inferior articular process over the superior articular process of the vertebra below and causes locking in that position. It can be unilateral or bilateral. In case of unilateral facet joint locking mechanism is flexion/distraction and rotation. Only 30% of cases associated with neurologic defect. Most often it occurs at C4-5 and C5-6 level. Inferior articular facet of superior vertebral body is locked in front of the superior facet of the more inferior vertebral body but only on one side. X-ray Image Findings in such cases are - subtle, slight anterior subluxation of one vertebral body on the one below usually less than 25% of the width. On lateral view of cervical spine, some bodies appear true lateral below level of injury and oblique above level of injury that is the “Bow-tie sign”. Spinous processes do not align on frontal film. Spinous processes of inferior vertebrae displace toward the locked side. In case of bilateral facet joint locking there is always a history of severe flexion injury. Both anterior and posterior ligamentous structures are disrupted at site of injury. More superior vertebra subluxes forward by 50% or more of the body below. Usually occurs in lower cervical spine. Generally, facet locking is a rare occurrence. Case Description – a case of 43 years old female is presented in the report who presented with pain and stiffness in neck which was sudden in onset was present since last two days. Assessment, patient’s history and treatment have been discussed in the case study. Conclusion – This case study concluded that there is a significant effect of the given therapeutic intervention on pain, range of motion and activities of daily living (ADL) of the patient.
