The researchers observed students' activity by watching shortcut videos and answering the online quiz. The videos were shared through Zoom apps to help the learners to develop their speaking skills, especially in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, expressions, and fluency. The findings are that the students can learn English better in real situations. They got a suitable strategy for speaking English using shortcut videos without boredom. The students speaking skills were measured; the mean score before the video was 54.17, and the mean score after the video was 70.24. Therefore, there was a significant improvement in speaking skills after using shortcut video with Zoom apps.  The study implies that teaching speaking needs creativity by employing digital resources.

Abstract

Reading is a crucial skill in learning English that students must master. However, learners often face challenges such as limited time and restricted access to reading materials. In the Russian Federation, website restrictions further limit access to educational resources. This study addresses the issue by introducing visual storybooks as a solution to enhance students' reading comprehension. The research was conducted with first-semester students at Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, involving 22 participants. Using a classroom action research design, the study aimed to test the hypothesis that visual storybooks can significantly improve reading comprehension. Data were collected through reading tests, and the learning process incorporated small group discussions to foster idea sharing and active participation. The results showed notable improvement in students' reading comprehension scores, with pre-test results averaging 72.04 and post-test results reaching 81.81. The findings indicate that visual storybooks effectively enhance reading comprehension and engagement among first-semester students in the Russian Federation.

Abstract

This study investigates the attitudes of first-year university students toward the use of asynchronous applications in learning reading comprehension. The primary objectives were to determine students' perceptions of using smartphone-based asynchronous media platforms (AMP) for reading comprehension, assess how these applications enhance student engagement, and understand the rationale behind their use. Data were collected via a questionnaire administered to twenty-seven first-year university students. A case study approach was employed, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The findings indicate that students have a positive attitude toward the use of asynchronous applications for reading comprehension, with high average scores on the questionnaire demonstrating favorable assessments of these tools. The positive student attitudes toward asynchronous applications suggest that integrating these tools into the EFL curriculum could significantly enhance reading comprehension and engagement. The use of asynchronous media platforms provides flexibility and accessibility, enabling students to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. In conclusion, the findings of this study highlight the potential benefits of asynchronous applications in EFL learning environments. By adopting these tools, educators can create more dynamic and interactive learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs of students.
