Abstract

The development of information technology has transformed the way educational institutions deliver learning materials, with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Edmodo, and Google Classroom becoming the main tools in distance learning. However, the effectiveness of using LMS in improving student engagement and academic achievement remains an issue, as it is influenced by factors such as instructional design, digital skills, and lecturer support. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of LMS in enhancing student engagement and academic achievement at Universitas Muhammadiyah Muara Bungo. A mixed-method approach was employed, with data collected through surveys of 70 students from three study programs and interviews with lecturers. The survey results indicated that 72% of students felt more engaged in learning through LMS compared to traditional methods, with discussion forums and interactive quizzes being the main drivers of engagement. Data analysis also revealed a positive correlation between the intensity of LMS use and final course grades, where students who were active in LMS achieved an average of 15% higher scores. This study highlights the importance of LMS as a tool for improving student engagement and academic achievement. By understanding the factors that affect the effectiveness of LMS, Universitas Muhammadiyah Muara Bungo can design better strategies to maximize the platform’s potential in the learning process. The findings are expected to provide recommendations for the development of more effective learning strategies in the future.
