Abstract

Makalah ini mengkaji pandangan bahwa kovenan anugerah diatur oleh pemilihan Allah yang implikasinya adalah bahwa anak-anak harus dibaptis, dengan asumsi bahwa mereka telah dipilih dan dilahirbarukan. Di dalam RCN, gagasan ini diajukan oleh Abraham Kuyper, yang pada beberapa dekade selanjutnya menimbulkan konflik serius yang menyebabkan perpecahan di tubuh RCN pada tahun 1944. Kajian ini disusun dari perspektif teologi sistematika yang juga berusaha melihat relevansinya dengan baptisan Roh; sebuah tema yang tidak termasuk di dalam kuliah teologis selama konflik di dalam tubuh RCN. Setelah membahas hal ini, dampak dari hal tersebut terhadap misi Reformed Belanda di Indonesia, khususnya di Sumba, penting untuk dibahas guna mengetahui secara tepat bahwa permasalahan dan perpecahan di gereja-gereja Belanda tersebut telah menciptakan citra yang buruk pada sejarah kekristenan di Indonesia. This article evaluates the view that the covenant of grace is governed by election which its implication that the children must be baptized by assuming that they are elected and regenerated. Within the RCN, this idea was promoted by Abraham Kuyper, in which, some decades later, this concept inflicted a serious conflict that lead to a separation in the body of the RCN in 1944. This evaluation is made from the perspective of systematic theology which also tries to see its relevance to the Spirit baptism; a subject which was not included in the theological discourse during the conflict within RCN. Afterwards, its impact to the Dutch Reformed mission in Indonesia, particularly in Sumba, is substantial to be discussed in order to know properly that the polemic and the division in the Netherlands had created a bad image in the history of Christianity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Postmodernism philosophy has made a serious impact to some Christian thinkers on how they view the truth. During many decades ago, Christian theologians had formulated and defended the Christian theology as a system of propositional truths. However, in some recent decades the truth - as propositions which are expected to become timeless truths -has been declined by some thinkers like Leslie Newbigin and Stanley Grenz. One of the primary reasons to reject propositions in theological discourse, according to them, that it is a product of the enlightenment and therefore cannot be applied in the postmodern context. Yet, this view has a significant problem and therefore the aim of this article is to elaborate the problem and to maintain the significance of the propositional truths in Christian faith.

Abstract

Presuppositional apologetics has become a main alternative (or competitor?) for the classical apologetics which maintains evidences. Although its emergence occurred within the Reformed tradition, particularly through the effort of Cornelius Van Til and Gordon Clark, its significance goes beyond the Reformed tradition. Even the contemporary evangelical apologist, Ravi Zacharias, also utilizes presuppositional apologetics which he combines with evidentialistic method. This fact is hardly denied when we read his book "Jesus among Other Gods." Thus, the main concern of this article is regarding the significance of the presuppositional apologetics particularly in its Van Tillian form. After presenting an exposition on this method, we will see its application toward Muslims' concept of God and the idea of uniformity.

Abstract

This article describes Shankara's doctrine of non-duality and makes a Christian response. Dealing with the thought of this Indian great Philosopher is not an exaggerating effort for the concept of non- duality prevails in this New Age era. Terms such as Brahman (the absolute reality), Atman (the absolute basis of human soul which is identical to Brahman), and maya (illusion) are not peculiar to those who are familiar with the teaching of the today's New Age gurus, for instance, Deepak Chopra. Hence, my effort to react through the lens of the Christian faith will be worthwhile particularly to enrich our understanding in the realm of Christian apologetics. Here, my response shows the inherent metaphysical, logical, and ethical problems of Shankara's non-duality which he expounds in concepts like Brahman, Atman, and maya.
