Abstract

Cash waqf, an initiative introduced by BWI Parepare City, initially aimed to alleviate post-Covid-19 poverty in the region. However, its implementation has proven ineffective and counterproductive to local economic development. In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issue, a qualitative study was conducted, consisting of interviews at the BWI Office and PCNU in Parepare City, to gather relevant data. The study aimed to provide a description of currency waqf from both a fiqh and positive law perspective, while also conducting a Maqāşid Sharia-centric analysis of the reorientation of cash waqf at BWI Parepare City. The first finding showed that cash waqf involved depositing funds in financial institutions for socioreligious purposes. However, the second finding indicated the issue with the current cash waqf implementation in Parepare City, as it lacked orientation and failed to contribute effectively to economic development. This study discusses the implications of cash waqf in facilitating economic recovery, emphasizing the need for waqf fiqh to align with concepts that genuinely benefit the people and remain adaptable to the prevailing conditions. The aim is to ensure the implementation of cash waqf in a manner that supports economic development and maintains harmony with the present circumstances

Abstract

According to Surah Al-Baqarah, facing the qibla is a religious requirement in performing salah (prayer). Therefore, the objective of this research is to understand the methods used to determine the qibla direction of Masjid Al-Mujahidin in Parepare and analyze the calibration of its qibla direction. This research employs a qualitative approach with field research methodology. Data analysis is conducted using a descriptive approach to provide an overview of the research object and test hypotheses.  The results of the research indicate that: 1. The method used to determine the qibla direction of Masjid Al-Mujahidin in Parepare is a combination of a compass and observations of the sun's shadow. 2. Calibration of the mosque's qibla direction reveals a deviation of one and a half degrees. Although this deviation is considered small, it can still be tolerated in certain circumstances or within certain parameters.

Abstract

One of the conflicts happened in our society is a decision on qiblah accuracy direction. As the writer mentioned, one of the conflicts happened at Nurul Iman Mosque located in Karanglo, Klaten, Central Java. The dispute was driven by a radical attitude towards implementing Fiqh which Alexander Nixitin mentions this motive perspective as a cultural-spiritual world. This study aims at examining how moderate values in Fiqh are used to find qiblah direction. Facing qiblah direction while praying is a must according to Imam Syafi’i. Thus, accuracy is an absolute truth in terms of Fiqh qiblah. However, the implementation should be based on the contextual situation within society. The researcher employs the qualitative approach using library research. The result of the study finds that dissimilar understanding and approach in fiqh qiblah exacerbated by radical attitude lead to a dispute in society. In light of it, a moderate value approach is needed in determining qiblah direction, which aims to reach an agreement on qiblah direction using hisab method, and expectedly these moderate (flexible) values can lessen friction in the society.
