Abstract

This study discusses variations of models or approaches that have been used by orientalists in studying the relationships between Islam and politics in Indonesia. The writer has used socio-historical approach in order to categorize the models or approaches. Generalization that has been employed by orientalists on Islam and politics in Indonesia, both in its relation to the state and other groups, can be simplified into deconfessionalization, domestication, schismatic and variant, trichotomy, and cultural Islam. It can be concluded, from this study, that analysis that has been used by orientalists has not been always negative. Therefore, their works will always be relevant and useful as references in studying relations between Islam and politics in lndonesia.

Abstract

This paper will shed light into the most current phenomena of how Islamist groups create and expand their influence and membership. In view of the Islamists like the Indonesian Tarbiyah movement, Islamisation of society and the state is the ultimate goal to be achieved. Families become the most important means of Islamisation. If all families have been successfully made “Islamic”, people and the country will follow suit. Preparing the family as the basis of making up society and the establishment of an Islamic state is, therefore, urgent. One of the ways is to match young men and women to get married through taʻāruf or “Islamic introduction”, which goes against the very popular trend of dating among youths nowadays. In addition to be practiced within Tarbiyah members, marriage is also promoted to the larger public. This group of Islamists use most contemporary modern media to expand their influence. By doing so, this kind of movement will have a tremendous and strong socio-political implication in the long run of Indonesian politics.[Tulisan ini mengkaji fenomena kontemporer tentang bagaimana sebuah kelompok (Gerakan Tarbiyah) membentuk dan meluaskan pengaruh serta keanggotaannya. Kelompok Islam tersebut melihat bahwa Islamisasi masyarakat dan Negara merupakan tujuan utama yang harus dicapai termasuk yang terpenting adalah keluarga. Mereka menganggap bahwa jika unit keluarga sudah menjadi ‘Islam’ maka masyarakat dan Negara secara otomatis akan mengikutinya. Oleh karena itu keluarga perlu disiapkan sebagai pondasi menuju masyarakat dan Negara yang Islamis. Salah satu cara paling awal adalah dengan memperkenalkan konsep Taʻāruf bagi muda mudi yang ingin menikah, sekaligus sebagai tandingan terhadap konsep ‘pacaran’ yang saat ini populer. Untuk mempromosikan konsep tersebut ke khalayak yang lebih luas, mereka pun menggunakan media yang paling modern dan masif. Sehingga gerakan mereka tampak kuat implikasinya dalam peta perpolitikan di Indonesia. ]

Abstract

The downfall of the New Order regime in 1998, which was soon followed by the liberalization policy in almost every aspect of politics, opened vast opportunities for the emergence of political expressions including Islamism into the public space. While violent responses indicated by some Islamic groups, who take advantage of the weakening of the state, Tarbiyah Movement (harakah tarbiyah) consistently performs gradual Islamization through the system provided by the state. Based on a field research in Jambi, Sumatra, this article discusses the efforts undertaken by the group to incorporate their Islamist ideas into secular education system at the levels of primary and secondary education. This article argues that these all efforts are part of Islamization process of society and the state in Indonesia after the failure of its leaders in doing the same thing at the political level especially in the aftermath of the 1999 general election.

Abstract

Abstrak: Cepatnya perubahan yang terjadi di tengah kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan di era globalisasi ini seringkali tidak seimbang dengan upaya pembaharuan pemikiran di kalangan umat Islam. Tampaknya, hal ini disebabkan oleh keyakinan bahwa karya- karya pemikiran ulama masa lalu dianggap sakral, sudah menjawab setiap tantangan yang ada sepanjang sejarah umat Islam dan karena itu dianggap final. Karenanya, setiap upaya untuk mengkritisinya dianggap sebagai “makar akademis” dan pelakunya bahkan dapat dituduh murtad. Akhirnya, timbul kekhawatiran di kalangan praktisi akademis untuk melakukan pembaharuan yang berakibat pada stagnasi pemikiran. Tulisan ini adalah sebuah upaya untuk mendiskusikan problem-problem pembaruan pemikiran Islam di Indonesia lebih detail dan upaya-upaya solutif terhadap problem- problem tersebut.Abstract: Islamic Thought Reform Movement in Indonesia: From Part of Problem to be Part of Solution. The rapid development of social life in the era of globalization has often been run unparallel with the effort for thinking reform within the Muslim community. It appears that this may have arisen from the belief that the works of the past scholars of Islam are regarded to be sacred, capable of responding to any challenges in the span of the history of Muslim community and thus regarded final. Similarly, any attempt to criticize such views is seen as an academic assault the actor of whom may be accused of doing an act of apostasy. At the end, this lead to anxiety within the academicians to carry out reform that would have a logical consequence of thinking to be stagnant. This essay is an attemp to discuss the problems of Islamic thought reform in Indonesia in details as well as find solution to such problems.Kata Kunci: pembaharuan pemikiran Islam, Indonesia

Abstract

Founded in 1912, Muhammadiyah claims to be the largest puritan-modernist Islamic organisation not only in Indonesia but also in the world, with more than 25 million followers. Originally Muhammadiyah was purely a religious organisation. However, after the declaration of Indonesian independence in1945, particularly after Masy'umi -of which Muhammadiyah was one of its special membership - was transformed into a political party, Muhammadiyah has been involved in Indonesian politics in one way or another. Since it was founded, Muhammadiyah promotes ijtihad as opposed to ijma' as in the case of the Nahdlatul Ulama the largest traditionalist Islamic organization founded in 1926. However, it was after the collapse of New Order regime that Muhammadiyah started to associate its political role by combining its basis of worldview that is ijtihad with political attitudes of its leaders.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v15i1.537

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses transformasi IAIN menuju UIN guna memahami langkah-langkah konkret yang dilakukan dalam proses transformasi tersebut. Transformasi IAIN menuju UIN memiliki implikasi yang luas, terutama terkait dengan pengembangan pendidikan tinggi keagamaan di Indonesia. Dalam konteks ini, penting untuk menganalisis kebijakan yang diterapkan selama proses transformasi dan mengidentifikasi implikasi dari transformasi tersebut terhadap berbagai aspek pendidikan keagamaan, termasuk kurikulum, metode pembelajaran, dan peran institusi dalam masyarakat. Dengan menggunakan metode studi literatur yang melibatkan pencarian dan analisis berbagai sumber literatur seperti buku, artikel jurnal, laporan riset, dan dokumen-dokumen kebijakan terkait, Hasil penelitian memberikan gambaran komprehensif tentang transformasi IAIN menuju UIN, kebijakan-kebijakan yang terkait, serta dampak-dampaknya dalam pengembangan pendidikan tinggi keagamaan.
