Abstract

The algorithm discovered by Al Khawarizmi is a result of thinking that makes something that was impossible in modern science, possible today. In the book “The Advent of the Algorithm: The Idea that Rules the World” by David Berlinski, it is stated that there are two extraordinary ideas, calculus and algorithm. An algorithm is a systematic logical steps to solve a problem, which is composed and designed logically and systematically. The key element in an algorithm is its logical consistency. This is because an algorithm must be logical and its truth value (true or false) can be determined. An algorithm can also be defined as sequential steps in performing certain tasks. The advancement of modern computer technology today cannot be denied thanks to the contribution of algorithms. A computer programmer will undoubtedly always use algorithms in creating and developing their programs. Algorithms play a very important role in the development of computer technology, especially computer programs.

Abstract

Society 5.0 emphasizes the integration of technology into daily life, where humans must maintain control and leverage technology in every aspect. Education plays a crucial role in preparing learners with necessary skills, not just knowledge content but also critical thinking abilities. Mathematics is deemed a vital foundation in facing the Society 5.0 era, aiding in problem-solving and technology utilization. This research aims to explore the role of strengthening mathematical abilities in addressing challenges and opportunities in Society 5.0 era, integrating skill development through mathematics education to prepare adaptive human resources. The study adopts a library research design, gathering data from various sources. It involves activities of reading, noting, and processing research materials from diverse library sources, including online and offline scholarly journals. The conclusion drawn from this research underscores the importance of 21st-century skills, including collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking, for adaptation in the Society 5.0 era. Mathematics education plays a vital role in developing these skills through creative problem-solving, teamwork, idea presentation, and information evaluation, aligning with the demands of the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

Nowadays, the ability of students in solving problems is very important. The teacher as a facilitator must present learning that is interesting and easy to understand. One alternative that can be done is to apply a problem-based learning model. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant improvement in the mathematical problem-solving ability of fifth-grade students of Aisyiyah Metro Elementary School after problem-based learning is applied. This research was conducted using a quantitative research method with the type of experimental research and using a quasi-experimental design in the form of a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study was the fifth-grade students of Aisyiyah Metro Elementary School with a total of 37 students divided into 2 classes, namely the experimental and the control class. Data collection techniques in this study used three methods, namely: observation, problem-solving ability tests, and documentation. The results of the study concluded that there was a significant increase in mathematical problem-solving ability in classes using problem-based learning compared to classes using conventional learning.
