Abstract

In this study, the problem of optimal capacitor location and size determination (OCLSD) in radial distribution networks for reducing losses is unraveled by moth swarm algorithm (MSA). MSA is one of the most powerful meta-heuristic algorithm that is taken from the inspiration of the food source finding behavior of moths. Four study cases of installing different numbers of capacitors in the 15-bus radial distribution test system including two, three, four and five capacitors areemployed to run the applied MSA for an investigation of behavior and assessment of performances. Power loss and the improvement of voltage profile obtained by MSA are compared with those fromother methods. As a result, it can be concluded that MSA can give a good truthful and effective solution method for OCLSD problem.

Abstract

In this paper, the combined wind and thermal power plant systems are operated optimally to reduce the total fossil fuel cost (TFFC) of all thermal power plants and supply enough power energy to loads. The objective of reducing TFFC is implemented by using antlion algorithm (ALA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA). The best method is then determined based on the obtained TFFC from the three methods as dealing with two study cases. Two systems with eleven units including one wind power plant (WPP) and ten thermal power plants are optimally operated. The two systems have the same characteristic of MFSs but the valve loading effects (VLEs) on thermal power plants are only considered in the second system. The comparisons of TFFC from the two systems indicate that CSA is more powerful than ALA and PSO. Furthermore, CSA is also superior to the two methods in terms of faster search process. Consequently, CSA is a powerful method for the problem of optimal generation for wind-thermal power plant systems with consideration of MFSs from thermal power plants.

Abstract

In this paper, Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) is suggested for determining optimal operation parameters of the combined wind turbine and hydrothermal system (CWHTS) in order to minimize total fuel cost of all operating thermal power plants while all constraints of plants and system are exactly satisfied. In addition to CSA, Particle swarm optimization (PSO), PSO with constriction factor and inertia weight factor (FCIWPSO) and Social Ski-Driver (SSD) are also implemented for comparisons. The CWHTS is optimally scheduled over twenty-four one-hour interval and total cost of producing power energy is employed for comparison. Via numerical results and graphical results, it indicates CSA can reach much better results than other ones in terms of lower total cost, higher success rate and faster search process. Consequently, the conclusion is confirmed that CSA is a very efficient method for the problem of determining optimal operation parameters of CWHTS.

Abstract

In this paper, the Ba2Si5N8Eu2+ phosphor is proposed as the novel recommendation for enhancing the optical properties in terms of D-CCT, CRI, CQS, and LO of the CP-WLEDs. Firstly, we conducted the physical model of the CP-WLEDs in the Light Tools software with the main parameters like the real LEDs. Furthermore, the scattering process in LEDs compound of the CP-WLEDs is simulated and investigated by the Matlab software. Then the influence of the Ba2Si5N8Eu2+ concentration on the D-CCT, CRI, CQS, and LO of the CP-WLEDs is investigated. Finally, the research results showed that the Ba2Si5N8Eu2+ concentration has a considerable effect on the D-CCT, CRI, CQS, and LO of the CP-WLEDs. From the results, we can state that the Ba2Si5N8Eu2+ phosphor can be considered as the novel recommendation for enhancing the optical properties of the CP-WLEDs.

Abstract

In this paper, the underlay cognitive radio network over mix fading environment is presented and investigated. A cooperative cognitive system with a secondary source node S, a secondary destination node D, secondary relay node Relay, and a primary node P are considered. In this model system, we consider the mix fading environment in two scenarios as Rayleigh/Nakagami-m and Nakagami-m/Rayleigh Fading channels. For system performance analysis, the closed-form expression of the system outage probability (OP) and the integral-formed expression of the ergodic capacity (EC) are derived in connection with the system's primary parameters. Finally, we proposed the Monte Carlo simulation for convincing the correctness of the system performance.

Abstract

Wind power plants (WPs) play a very important role in the power systems because thermal power plants (TPs) suffers from shortcomings of expensive cost and limited fossil fuels. As compared to other renewable energies, WPs are more effective because it can produce electricity all a day from the morning to the evening. Consequently, this paper integrates the optimal power generation of TPs and WPs to absolutely exploit the energy from WPs and reduce the total electricity generation cost of TPs. The target can be reached by employing a proposed method, called one evaluation-based cuckoo search algorithm (OEB-CSA), which is developed from cuckoo search algorithm (CSA). In addition, conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) is also implemented for comparison. Two test systems with thirty TPs considering prohibited working zone and power reserve constraints are employed. The first system has one wind power plant (WP) while the second one has two WPs. The result comparisons indicate that OEB-CSA can be the best method for the combined systems with WPs and TPs.

Abstract

Novel results on complex interconnected time-delay systems with single phase second order sliding mode control is investigated. First, a reaching phase in traditional sliding mode control (TSMC) is removed by using a novel single phase switching manifold function. Next, a novel reduced order sliding mode observer (ROSMO) with lower dimension is suggested to estimate the unmeasurable variables of the plant. Then, a new single phase second order sliding mode controller (SPSOSMC) is established based on ROSMO tool to drive the state variables into the specified switching manifold from beginning of the motion and reduce the chattering in control input. Then, a stability condition is suggested based on the well-known linear matrix inequality (LMI) method to ensure the asymptotical stability of the whole plant. Finally, an illustrated example is simulated to validate the feasible application of the suggested technique.
