Abstract

The process of speech recognition is such that a speech signal from a client or user is received by the system through a microphone, then the system analyses this signal and extracts useful information from the signal which is converted to text. This study focuses on the design and implementation of a speech recognition system integrated with internet of thing (IoT) to control electrical appliances and door with raspberry pi as a core element. To design the speech recognition system, digital signal processing (DSP) technique and hidden Markov model were fully considered for processing, extraction and high predictive accuracy of the system. The Google application programming interface (API) was used as a cloud server to store command and give the system to assess to the internet. With 150 speech samples on the system, a high level of accuracy of over 80% was obtained.

Abstract

The advancement of technology has brought about the need for industrial innovation. One area where innovation is required in a developing country is in the retail industry (this is the focus point of this project) where the present system that is the barcode technology is old and archaic. This project is based on the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to create a faster, easier and more secured checkout system. This paper showcases the development of a miniature RFID desktop application that can be used for registering items coming into a shopping mall, checking out of goods bought from the shopping mall and the detection of an attempt to steal goods from the shopping mall, using both C# programming language and MySQL for the database management.

Abstract

Energy is a key component in the overall growth of every nation. Insufficient energy delivery hinders political growth, restricts social growth, limits economic growth, and negatively affects the standard of living of citizens, bothin urban and rural areas. Sufficient energy delivery increases food production, improves the standards of living of citizens, improves healthcare and enhancements in other human services, enhances industrial output, provides effective and efficient transportation not forgetting adequate shelter to the citizens of the nation. Currently, there is a significant level of deficiency in Nigeria’s energy sector. This study seeks to address this issue by analysing cost implications of conventional energy source and solar energy source. This study brings to focus the payback period of a solar powered home and the return on investment that might accrue during this time to the residential home owners. Furthermore, the best cost-effective load sharing option for residential owners considering two energy sources is also obtained.

Abstract

This new work presents a home automation system which employs internet of things (IoT) technology. This technology streamlines the design with an accurate home automation system which guides against the issues of energy wastage and excessive expenditure on the present systems of the utility company and the consumers. The system deploys a 32-bit ESP8266 system on chip (SoC) wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) module which is linked to some sensors through a microcontroller for data communication. User friendly remote access, operation and management of the system are achieved through a mobile/web graphic user interface application. Daniel hall of students' residence at Covenant University is the location chosen for the deployment of prototype designed, the overall system achieved approximately 17% savings in energy consumption which in turn reduces the cost of energy usage for the same comform level.
